When the dogwoods are in full bloom.

You know I've been told that my whole life and I
Swear when you see the first dogwood bloom here I will have the hardest week of hunting in the whole season for me. I don't know why but it's like they cease gobbling and become very hard to find.

IMO, Around the Knox Co area if your wanting to head a flock off and ambush a Tom go early season , if your wanting to roost one or catch him alone in the middle of the day and call him go mid April on ... I like it from mid April on , if you can catch one by himself in the middle of the day and gobble back at you , you better set down and flip the safety off ...

A lot of it depends on where you hunt. East of here, from Monterey and points east, the last 2 weeks of April are NORMALLY better than the first. I started hunting when the closest place to hunt was Catoosa. Ive seen the skillet freeze solid overnight up there lol.
If I had to pick on a statewide basis I would still take the last 2 weeks instead of the first. If you have birds and know what youre doing, you can call up turkeys from now until June and still get to see the show doing so.
