20 g turkey gun options

This is the exact gun I am leaning towards getting.
You won't be disappointed! If you end up going with it, get in touch with sumtoy customs and get a mount. It puts it super low on the receiver. I ditched my rail and running a plate that mounts my holsun 507c right to the receiver.

I've got an almost new 870 20guage youth that my son outgrew before he really even got into shooting/hunting. What makes this gun a good turkey gun? I've always just used my old 12 g 870 with wore out camo tape on it.
Bulletproof, no frills, tiny turkey destroying machine. With #9 TSS, equivalent to a 3.5in 10g with #7 heavishot. Est 5lbs or so with a compact 20in bbl, it's a dream to carry on 10 to 15 mile hike days, plus you can adjust easier on a tom than comes in flanking silently while you are hidden in a brierpatch.

The 20g 870 youth compact is THE definition of KISS. Nothing fancy, just stacks toms like cordwood.

I have a Winchester sx4 20 gauge with a 26 in barrel, #9 TSS and a .570 Rob Roberts choke makes a fine setup .
it also has the best trigger of any shotgun I have ever owned .

The Sumtoy mounts with a red dot like a FF2, FF3, etc. are about as slick a set up as you can get. Their chokes are top notch too.

Thought about doing this myself...I've been shooting a 935 but my sons 870 / 20 youth has been collecting dust for many years. My son-in-law is a gunsmith and can tap the receiver, then I'd just need to add a Sumtoy choke and their red dot mount with an FF3 and I bet the 935 would never see the light of day again.

Do it! You will never look back! I do not own an 870 20 gauge but have seen some awesome patterns out of that gun. The 20 is just so light at 5 pounds or so. I have carried 12 and 20 it makes a difference when you are out and about all day. The 20 feels like a toothpick and is a gobblers worst nightmare with several Different shell and choke combos! It's not only TSS(definitely best patterns), I have patterned Winchester longbeards, Federal Grand slam, they will all do what you need out of the 20 gauge. You just have to pattern your gun , I try not to shoot over 35 yards anyway. Good luck if you try it!

Yeah they're nice for sure. I reckon they're making mounts for most any sight now. I know for sure Burris, trijicon, holosun, and vortex.

I have a mossberg 500 youth model 20 ga that was my son's. He killed a turkey with it when he was 8 and it hasn't seen much daylight since then. He'll be 19 in March and between work, school, and a girlfriend he's pretty much quit hunting. Hasn't deer hunted in a couple of years and been longer than that for turkeys. Told me it wasn't for him which is ok so I may try to do something with it. I'd like to have a Benelli M2 but don't want to spend that kind of money just yet.

My son uses the Mossberg 88 youth model. Same barrel , choke tubes and all as the 500 just different type safety. Both of us have killed turkeys with it. It was the original 20 that got me hooked ! It's lights out with a Carlson .575 , I have killed them with Federal Grand slam, Federal HVW #7 and TSS out of that gun. The gun will shoot! I am like you I love the Benelli M2 but man I don't like the price tag, Lol. Check out the Stoeger 3020 that Redblood mentioned. I have one in Mossy Oak Bottomland and the turkey edition(shorter barrel, drilled and tapped). Sweet shooter and at 5 pounds feels great in your hands and is inertia driven like the Benelli.

I bought some Federal HVW 7's for it. I looked at a Stoeger M3500 when looking for a duck gun before settling on a SBE2 and love it. After seeing Redblood's comments on the M3020 I've done some reading. Found a black one online but want to handle one first.

Hard to beat an 870 for a simplistic compact lightweight killer, especially when paired with TSS 9s/9.5s/10s and a forgiving choke. Weatherby SA 459 on left, Remington 870 in middle (main gun) and unicorn Rem 870 Special Purpose on the right. All 20G guns.

I was in Sportmans Warehouse tonight and they had a Franchi Affinity 3 Turkey model and it was nice and shouldered good but didn't seem to be anymore lightweight and compact than my sx3 12gauge
If I read correctly that gun is 6.8 pounds , probably not much different. The Stoeger 3020 is more like 5 to 5.5 and the Mossberg SA 20 turkey thug is also. From left to right Stoeger 3020 turkey edition, Stoeger 3020 Bottom land , Mossberg SA 20 turkey thug and the Savage 301 T single shot. All are lightweight 20 gauge options. A pound or two makes a difference to me carrying, holding on hung up longbeards while waiting and those long hikes gobblers always seem to get me to take. Lol

Is that a 24" barrel on the bottomland or 26"? I'd be interested if you wanted to part with it.

The Bottomland is 26 , The Turkey model is 24 inch , Sa 20 is 22. I would have to think on it, I really like the gun. Cycles low brass , turkey loads or whatever you put in it without any issues.

I bought a benelli montefeltro last year. With shortages only semi auto I could find. I'm a inertia fan so it fit. Fell in love with it. Shoot a sumtoy choke and federal tss 9s. We dove hunt a lot to so i use it there to. Haven't pick up a 12 gauge in a year. Shoot a sumtoy out of my a5 as well and they are great underrated chokes. If money us no issue a benelli m2 or super black eagle 3 is what I would look into as well.

If I was going to buy a new 20 gauge turkey gun it would probably be the Franchi Affinity 3. Now if I just had $3,000 laying around obviously the Benelli M2 Turkey would be what I would get.

I have also been looking at the Retay Masai and Gordion turkey guns. They seem to get good reviews online at sportsman's warehouse etc. But I don't know anyone on here that has one. I would like to talk to someone that has one or see some unbiased review on this sight or others that aren't trying to sell me the gun.
