Absolute waste of time in my opinion unless you are still hunting. In my experience, deer do move in high winds but the catch is they can smell you much better. All those high winds do is blow your scent around for every animal in the woods to smell you. Deer are also more alert in high winds because they can't hear as well.
I agree, and that is what happened. I didn't want to still hunt it after what all I found. There were 2 feed buckets around that ground blind and a buck skull. Whoever that blind belongs to is a thief and a criminal. If they'll do that on public there isn't much more they won't do, IMHO.

I went across the creek and set up. Had little to no west wind until about an hour before dark, then I had a strong east wind. 🤔 And sure enough, I got busted about 15 minutes later. How in the corn bread world I can get an east wind when there is a 20 mph west wind blowing is beyond me. Oh well, going to a different spot in the morning that has fields.

Well dang, I was hoping you'd get a deer. It's a shame that you encountered a poacher's blind.

In my experience, wind direction in high winds can change pretty dramatically in just a few minutes. When I used to hunt high winds, the wind would "swirl" and go every direction regardless of what the wind direction should've been. It sucks because it swirls your scent everywhere and makes the deer more alert then they already are.

The last time I sat a high wind I was in a tree in my saddle. I tossed out a small piece of milk weed and it did a 360 around the tree I was in. LOL It can sure get crazy some times!!

I usually have the same opinion. But I have hunted high wind days. I don't like it as well but also I have had some good days hunting high wind. In 2020 I was in a stand and the wind was blowing like crazy. It was cold and wind blowing from my left. So I had pulled my hood around iver that side of my face just to try to get some relief from the wind. Next thing I know I have several deer coming towards me straight from my left. When I got my gun up and shot the 8 point I shot ran right towards my stand and ran just feet away from the bottom of my stand and fell about 40 yards away. Anyway it was insanely windy that day but tunred out to be a great day hunting.
