My season ended very similarly to how it began --- with another
DOUBLE harvest
We never heard a single gobble on our last morning to hunt, yet did call in these two nice longbeards.
I let the lady pick out the one she wanted, then I shot the other.
One had 1.0" spurs, the other had 1.3" spurs.
Both birds were head shot at under 15 yards, no pellets in the breast --- good eatin' --- I'm happy
The below pic (with story) was posted at the beginning of this thread,
and was from the season's first weekend --- a very exciting opening weekend!
Was a season with two double kills, all up close & personal head shots on strutting Toms.
Should add, seemed the late-season surviving male birds were mostly back in little bachelor groups,
very clam-mouthed, and mostly in a feeding pattern.
Also seems in my hunting areas, about 80% of the longbeards were wiped out during the first 10 days of the season,
and it's mainly jakes that have survived.
I almost feel guilty for taking a late-season longbeard,
but did pass up three, maybe four high-probabily LB kills during the early part of season.
Overall, had a good turkey season this year.
