2025 Trout stocking schedules released

Up where we fish on Tellico and Citico, one reason is because they close fishing for two days after stocking to give the fish an opportunity to disperse. They can't close for stocking without letting people know when its closed.
Actually that is fair. On the Clinch they back it up to the boat ramp and there is a depression there…… the locals go and stand in a semi circle and yank them out as the truck dumps them!!!! Now that's fishing!!! Not.

My dad used to take us to the clinch by clinton back in the late 70's and the fishing was phenomenal. Always limited on 12"+ trout and you were in the middle of nowhere. now the big hay fields we walked up to get to the river are a church, a prison and a dollar general; the old country road is a 4 lane highway with so much more shopping all over that area.

Yeah. Not a fan of that approach. I'm looking forward to wading citico creek tomorrow. It's always a little work to get on the fish there. I think some folks cheat on days it closed but giving the fish a chance to spread out makes for a much better experience.

Same here but it was the 80's and mom just dropped me off and picked me up 8-9 hours later. I taught myself how to fish that river. Weir covered up so many good holes-

We fly shipped it mostly but used wet flies that my dad tied like a stonefly like nymph he called the Ugly Bug, a fly he called the Clinch River bug that was a gray body with a white head as a dropper or a dark blue sedge. Always remember picking your rock or stick to watch for when the water was coming up, signaling it was time to head to the bank. watched him several times get doubles and what a circus it was trying to get them in the net.

Many moons ago we were camping in Tellico up towards the state line. There was a group of people camping next to us that was from the Nashville area. They were there to go wheeling, the N.C. ORV trails were still open at the time. One guy in the group just tagged along to fish. He had one those inflatable pontoons on his truck, I didn't where he thought he was gonna use it? The next day, a Thursday he comes walking down the road back into camp carrying a fishing rod and a stringer of trout. He walked up to me and said, man this place is the opposite of what I heard. Heard it was crowded and had to bring your own rock to stand on and I haven't seen another fisherman. I explained to him that you couldn't fish on Thursday or Friday because those were stocking days and you're lucky you didn't get a ticket. So the next day, Friday, he takes off with the pontoon on the truck. Comes back again with a "limit" of trout. I asked where he got them and he said that lake up on the mountain. I thought Indian Boundary and said so you went and turned right and went up the mountain? He was like no, I went left and went up the mountain. I asked him if was Green Cove and it was. Told him that was for kids, seniors and disabled folks only and get in the truck. He asked why, and I just said, get in. Took him down to Green Cove store and got him a regulation book and told him to read it thoroughly! I couldn't believe he "poached" all weekend and didn't get caught! He was very thankful for me setting him straight though!
