220 Swift

Who has played with a 220 Swift? My dad had one that he loved years ago and I have thought about building one just for nostalgia.

I shot my first deer with a 220 Swift...that was 59 years ago. Big mule deer doe, you never forget your first.

Yeah, the original loads had a 48 gr. bullet. Weird weight, and loaded to a claimed 4100+ fps. I kind of doubt that velocity. But, today with better BC bullets, you could probably load heavier bullets at lower velocity, and still get good range and better barrel life.

I have witnessed the velocity potential of a .220 Swift many years ago. It will do 4100 and then some.
