.223 Rem 1000yds

If you want to shoot a .223 rem out to 1000 yds how much scope adjustment is needed, in mils?
Just shooting at steel.

Would an 18 MRAD elevation and 14 MRAD windage work?

That will get you close depending on your barrel/load. If you need more you can always get a mount/base with built in elevation adjustment 20 or 30 MOA.
 
You need a muzzle velocity and a ballistic solver to get a real number on this. Otherwise you are just guessing.

There are many good ballistics apps out there that are very affordable. Your box of ammo will give you a rough muzzle velocity.

1000 w 223 is doable but not super consistent to say the least. If just trying to whack steel for fun, carry on.

I have not got that far into this yet, just trying to take advantage of the sales on scops.

I was just trying to formulate a guess as to the drop of a 55 gr fmj at that distance, total guess bc I've never tried it or tried to calculate it even, but figured with my WinMag and Creedmoor having to dial 30+ MOA, that the .223 would likely be quite a bit more, maybe 50-60 MOA, which would be around the 15-20 mil mark I think?
 
I use JBM and for GI 62 gr ammo it lists 54 moa to reach 1000 yards.

To seriously try to get 1000 yards I would get setup to shoot the 85-90 gr bullets and plan on getting new brass about ever 2nd trip to the range
 
I ran out of adjustment with my old scope shooting 73gr eldm at 800. Got a new scope but I can confidently say I wouldn't have much issue going to 1000 and hitting consistently. Remi can confirm once we got 800 right it was no problem to hit the plates.

Unless it transitions into subsonic really well it's gonna give you fits at 1000.
 
According to my calculator it takes 11.7 mils to get there with a 73gr eldm at 2703fps. If you have an 8 twist many ammo manufacturers load a 77tmk that'll get there. The 75eldm needs loaded long if you roll your own, so you'll need to single shoot it or make sure you have generous mag length. I don't know of anyone using anything heavier than the 80s in a 223. Mag length restrictions really hurt it. Hopefully after Christmas I'll get back to the range and stretch mine out again and get some hard data.
