In a river hopefully!
I'm back from Katmai. The 80-100 Alaskan Brown bears we saw were spectacular. Water was higher than 2019 so it made spotting rainbows more difficult but overall a GREAT trip!

Awesome 7mm-08 and yes if anyone gets a chance to be in Alaska I would suggest do all you can to make a trip to Katmai happen especially the Brookes Falls area cause it's unbelievable. Glad you made it out there and back safely and had another good trip.
Two groups on separate days did Brooks, above & below the falls. Fly in like all the rest . The rangers fine you if you fish less than 50 yards from a bear. I didn't want to deal with that since they broke off fish or had to quit when a bear walked within 50 y. We had bears all around us without rangers especially on the Moraine.

Beautiful country out there and I surely wouldn't want to deal with it either especially after having a big grizzly cut across the trail I was on. The sheer size of it made me change my plan of hiking any farther up that path cause it was crazy how quietly they move in the woods

Pike should be fatter with all those rainbows to eat.😀
Nice pics.
Fly rod or spinning?
All flyrod. The pike was and end of the day treat! The guide says " I know some backwater channels on the lower part where there are some pike, you guys in "?
I said , does a Katmai bear crap red from salmon in the fall? We both caught one, and then gave the rod to the guide and he caught one. 3 pike on the fly!

The bears of Katmai are like big dogs right now. God is supplying them manna from Heaven and all they want to do is eat. They have seen humans all their lives there. Unless you walk up on one sleeping in the bushes or mess with their babies you are most likely ok. But inland, they would rather kill you as look at you.

Last but not least the other group of fishermen and guide ( 3 guys) got delayed for an hour because the kids had to get fed!!!! This is how comfortable they are with humans…..
