2oz 20 gauge.

If you're only getting roughly 480 pellets in a 20" circle with that 2 oz load, I see why you're getting them cheaper than 1-5/8 oz loads.

I get that dead is dead, but I disagree that brand and payload does not matter one bit. I've seen too many reviews where certain brands definitely outperform others as far as patterns are concerned. However, if you're happy with your purchases, that's all that matters.
I'm satisfied with any 200/200 load if the patern is even and if the price is right at the ranges I shoot.

Sorta like someone bragging they have a half moa deer rifle/ ammo when they only shoot deer at 100y and in... they guy with a 2moa rifle/ammo will kill them just as good at those distances.

I've shot a bunch of various 9 tss's... and unless your gun/ ammo is totally blowing the pattern, I really don't think it's possible NOT to kill a tom 100% of the time at 40y and in with any of them.

Now if we are talking about killing turkeys at 60y... thats a whole different ballgame. Comparable to shooting at deer at 400y with a 2moa rifle/ammo.

For many, they don't mind if they spend $12 per shell. If that gives them the confidence the bird will die, it's worth it.

Personally, I have full confidence in the $5 per shell I'll be switching to. But I'm frugal, and only spend $$$ where it really makes a real difference (high end lightweight optics).

I remember the days of using magnum 4s or 6s in a 12 gauge. Or having a 3 inch magnum copperplated buffered turkey shells. Or Having a barrel with improved or modified and hoping I could get a gobbler closer than 35 but hopefully 25 yards.
I remember shooting at paper at a drawing of a turkey head and if I had what looked like 5-6 pellets in his head and neck I considered it good.

Now everyone is worried about getting a thousand pellets in a 1 inch circle. Haha.
(Yes I use TSS, just saying how much times have changed.)
I am not a pellet counter or paper guy either. I make sure I hit where I point or aim and that's it.

Good analogy, and I definitely get it.

With that 2 oz load, you're only getting approx 66% in a 20" circle. I'm not saying it won't kill, just saying I'd expect more like 85% or more in the 20" circle at 40 yds.

my #1 goal for my own personal pattern was always to try and get 250/250 or as close to that 20" number as I could get. Thankfully with handloading it made it a bit easier to reach those marks. When i first started handloading I was hunting a lot of fields so wanted assurance if they hung at 40-45yds. Funny enough times have changed thankfully and my places the birds shifted back to more woods. If I was to redo my pattern stuff now Id be MORE than happy with a 220/275 pattern

I like my patterns to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 320/190. I want to do all I can to put pellets in the head/neck and not the breast. That's the same reason I aim above the base of the neck unless they're super close. Just my personal preference of course.

I aim at the head and have my gun set high just to hit him with the bottom of my patteren, a pellet in the breast infuriates me

I've got plenty of shells for now but curious what tss shell is $5.

none are $5 each at regular pricing. But it's getting easier to find them on sale/closeout.

last year, I bought 10 boxes of these when they were $32 a box, they are what I will be switching to.

check ammoseek. lots of the winchester longbeard TSS for $5 per shell. (i don't know if those are a mix of lead and TSS)
