Got up this morning and got dressed to head out. When I raised my garage door it was raining pretty good. Came back the house and dang near stripped off the camo to climb in bed with my wife but decided I would check the radar. Saw that the worst was over and headed out. Drove down the field road to where I usually park with intentions of setting up in a 50 acre corn field that narrows down at one end. I figured the birds would be heading to fields. Got my vest on and waded the knee deep creek and heard one sound off back behind the truck on a big hill next to a small pasture. By the time I got to the edge of the pasture the birds were on the ground and I saw a couple heads bobbing over the hill as they went the other way. Did some soft yelps on my diaphragm and one cut me off. Five seconds later two jakes, two longbeards, and a single hen headed my way on a string. The two big birds got ticked when the jakes were beating them to me and began chasing them off. When they finished with the jakes they countinued my way putting on a show. 10 minutes later I was giving a quick thanks to God for a great season and headed back to the truck. 20.4 lbs 9 1/4 in beard 1 in spurs. Pics weren't that good with cell phone because everything was wet

I'm going to ask a stupid question. Is it a big creek you cross? I have some gobbler holed up on the other side of a BIG creek. It may be waist deep and the thought of trying to ford it in the dark is a little daunting. I've actually thought about wearing my swim trunks and wading boots to get across and then putting my clothes on when I get over there. The 50 degree temperature makes getting wet that early in the dark a "challenge" :D

Congrats on the great season! I want number 2 so bad I can taste it.

That particular creek is not bad, it was up a little due to the rain that morning but there is a larger creek on the property that will get waist deep. I have come home soaking wet more than once after crossing it to get on a bird. Last year I roosted a couple across it so the next morning I got there extra early and took my chest waders to get across it. Just slip your boots in your vest to put on after you cross it and take the waders off. Good luck

Man I had my hands on some waders at the store today. :D My first year of hunting there, I no kidding took my pants off, put them in my blind bag along with my boots and waded that sucker. It was SO COLD! When I got to the other side I stepped in some quick sand. I sunk all the way to my waist in goo. I got out using my shooting sticks, but I wasn't in any real danger.

This morning I could hear him just across the creek but I couldn't see him. I was hoping he would come to the bank. I would have shucked off the clothes and swam over there for certain. :D

I'm pretty sure he heard me setup or I over called. Normally they fly down from over there in the mornings. I may go way upstream and try to get over there this week and setup on him that way. I jumped a BIG one there the other day and he went straight across.

Thanks for the help!
