40 yards

That .640 choke seems tight...might be OVERchoking the load resulting in a less than optimal pattern.
x2. With your setup, I'd be looking for .660 constriction choke and then find the right shell (3" #5 or #6 for this constriction) and go to the range. Best of luck.

I use a Mossberg 500 with a hastings .660 choke and with the new long beard shells I get 255 pellets in a 10" circle at 45 yards.I use the 6 shot longbeards

If you haven't made a final decision, I have an UnderTaker HTL .675 choke for a mossy 500 that I will send you. I shot it with 3" Hevi #7's with it a few years back out of a 500. PM me your address if you need it.

Clean your barrel really good too! Lots of solvent and scrubbing.

sure is a loose pattern, but I can't see how that wouldn't still kill a turkey at 40 yards 9 times out of 10.

He may not have your luck Catman.... ;) I'd rate it more like 1 out of 10.....

no way, maybe it wouldn't be90% but no way it would be as low as 10%. Look at his hand or the size of the paper and think of the size of a birds head and neck... Might get one or two pellets in the spine, maybe one in the head and sure a handful more in the neck, sure not a very dense or ideal shot pattern but I fail to see how it wouldn't kill most of the time. My 50 yard shot was just plain lucky I guess but these 40s would for sure be a little more effective
