What a weekend this has been! From my thread yesterday, I called in three birds for him on Friday without a shot fired. None of them were his fault. I killed my third yesterday as he wanted to sleep in. We fished both Friday and Saturday afternoon. We had a good day on Friday but a special day yesterday as we caught around 60 big shell cracker.

I was absolutely warn out and couldn't get up this morning when the clock went off at 4. We were going to try to get on the two birds that we messed up on Friday. I had heard a bird here at the house a few times and decided to sleep in and see if he would gobble. I got up at 8:30, walked out side to water the grass :) , and hooted. He responded. I ran in, got him, and we got dressed to head out.

I hooted again when we got back out, he gobbled but was moving quick away from us. We got nearly to the point where he last gobbled, called, and no answer. We rounded the point, and I called the direction that they were headed and got a response. We sat down, and I called again. They gobbled below us, but I didn't like the set up and angle they'd have to come. We jumped up and headed around the hill 30 yards and set up where they had to come up over a small rise to look for us at 30 yards. I called again, and they were closer. We got ready, and a minute or two later I saw a white head and fan coming up over the rise. I had him to get his gun up and then seen another red head pop up about 20 yards to the left off the other. The strutter was coming perfect and came up over the rise at 30 yards. I clucked to get him out of strut, but he wouldn't and was coming closer. I told him to shoot him when he could. Once he cleared a tree for him, he let the 20 gauge go and absolutely hammered him. He never flopped. I'm not sure who was more excited as we got up and ran to him. I couldn't believe that we had just did it and got him his first turkey and long beard.

God is good and blessed us this morning! It was a long walk back home carrying two guns and a turkey, but we made church on time. It's been a good season with his first turkey and three tags punched for me considering we missed juvie and opening weekend due to foot surgery for me. My goals are complete for the year, and anything else will be a bonus.

18lbs 13oz
9.75" beard
3/4 & 7/8" spurs

Congrats to him! Textbook hunt, I bet he's hooked for life

Fantastic and congrats to you both. My son killed his one and only turkey when he was 8 and I did a full body mount for him. He recently told me he prefers deer hunting instead of turkeys and hasn't gone a single time this year. :smash:

Congrats to both of you! Nice story too.

Awesome. My bet is that you were the more excited :) !

I'd say you're right. He has killed 7 deer but much harder in my opinion to get a turkey to 30 yards and everything go right to not get busted. We had two very close encounters on Fri but couldn't close the deal. I still can't believe it came together the way it did.
