835 TURKEY CHOKES

I have a Indian Creek Black Diamond .675 that I bought new and has had 3 shots of 3" HeviShot MagBlends put through it that I would be willing to sell.

I disagree with the 835's not patterning as well in the lower constricted chokesI know two that pattern best in the .670-.675 range, but in fairness, every gun is different as well. I tried 6-7 different chokes before I got my 835 throwing a tight 40yd pattern out of a .670 choke. Mine did not like the larger choke tubes (.680-.690) at all. After I polished the inside of the barrel (something I highly recommend you do) and went with the .670, I got 170 tight-patterned pellets in a 10" ring at 40yds. The Indian Creek BD, was a close 2nd, but I got a slightly higher pellet count, and slightly better pattern, out of the TruGlo SSX .670. The .690 JellyHead only gave me 140 pellets and huge gaps in the pattern.

At $60 a piece for a Jellyhead, I can't afford to buy 3 or 4 tubes just to test. Truglo is around $30, so much more affordable. (It took a factory tube and two aftermarket tubes to find what worked well in my Winchester.)

How can I narrow down what will work best in a shorter barrel (24") Mossberg 835? Just bought this, so am getting it set up for the first time.

Lance before you do anything with chokes, polish that barrel. I did it to mine and had significantly better patterns and pellet count using the method and supplies listed in the link. http://oldgobbler.com/Forum/index.php/topic,182.0.html

I would start with the TruGlo in a .670 restriction and use Hevi-Shot 3" MagBlends....that should be a great combination, but you never know for sure, and that's the problem with all of this. :)

call William over at Sumtoy and talk to him. If the gun doesn't do what you want with his choke he will send you different ones or your money back. Hard to beat that!

Thanks guys.
The polishing looks pretty easy, can knock that out quickly.
I'll look into Sumtoy.
NWTF convention is coming up. I've been able to find pretty good deals there, so will be keeping an eye out for what I need.

I believe at final flight that you can take your gun and try different chokes until you find the one that patterns best before purchasing. That is just what I heard. I will have to call my buddy that is the store manager and ask.

Kicks Gobbling Thunder .675. IMO hard to beat. I shot it in my 835 and now use one in my 935 and its deadly!

Cool. Goes to show you how different each gun is from one another. When I tried Kick's choke, it was absolutely horrible. I shot 5 or 6 brands of ammo thru that thing and consistently got awful patterns. Here are some comparison's of Kick's vs. Jellyhead out of my 935...
