I've heard this before and I know several agree that its about the money and certainly anytime the government is involved "the money" comes into the conversation.
But in the case of CWD....TWRA is paying for all the testing and listening to several folks on here...the guidelines are not necessarily drawing more people towards hunting but pushing more folks away....and for sure if they achieve their goal and reduce deer numbers greatly...you can bet over time less people will be hunting....all this combined would equal less income generated...not more?
But maybe I'm missing something?

How can you possibly be VERY POSITIVE? No body can be VERY POSITIVE. I am VERY POSITIVE that if Ames is ground zero it should be the center of the investigation even if it didnt start there. The only way to be VERY POSITIVE it did not start at Ames is to be VERY POSITIVE about where it did start.

Fair point, but I think scn is alluding to the fact Ames did not import "breeder bucks" or any other deer, thus he's very positive it was not introduced at Ames by selfish short sighted human behavior. No one can be VERY POSITIVE "Ames is ground zero". Ames, like hundreds of other unfortunate tracts, is covered by all of the positive dots shown below. Worth mentioning, the majority of Ames owned land (80%) is in Fayette county (2nd highest prevalence rate in TN), not Hardeman (highest prevalence rate).
People alluding that it started at Ames because Ames is a research facility are way off. I think everybody in that area has a very good idea where it came from. But, without sufficient evidence to go to court, nothing can be said due to libel issues.
And, none of those folks would be saying Ames...........

And, the bottom line is that it doesn't matter where it came from. Due to the nature of the disease it would be almost impossible to have a winnable case against anyone. Who knows, it could have been in the soil for 200 yrs.

I wasnt alluding that it came from Ames because it is a research facility. I have other suspicions that may or may not be true just like everybody else. And, just because scn says on TN Deer doesn't make it so. If everybody knows where it came from, somebody needs to tell. If they KNOW, there is no libel. I have my ideas, but I don't know. As severely as this issue is affecting the hunters in Tennessee, they deserve to know if anybody knows. Especially the older ones who sacrificed and contributed to the sport while the herd was being built. These may not be around to see the end result of CWD. If Ames Plantation with all their wealth and political connections is not responsible or partially responsible the people at Ames deserve their name cleared.

I didn't propose it. I just said if it is so well known where it started, let everybody know. People will not throw rocks at Ames any more. Sorry to derail this thread. Merry Christmas to everyone.
CWD is an incredibly complex issue that sadly isn't well understood yet by science. We can conspiracy theory and point fingers and criticize because the decisions aren't ours to make. And to be quite honest I don't think I'd want that responsibility. I'm not a fan of how TWRA is handling it but I sure don't want to trade places with them.

Agree...and I'm not pushing any conspiracy theory at all....I'm saying that I hear that its all "about the money" but I dont understand? What money? If anything CWD is costing TWRA money...less people hunting now with less people hunting in the future along with more and more CWD testing.

No, the taxpayers are paying for all the testing. The government doesn't have any money that isn't yours.

I understand that the government doesnt generate income and that taxpayers foot the bill for everything that the government does. But in this case TWRA, who is funded by license sales, is giving away $75 vouchers for processing fee's and in some cases even giving away Sportsman license...both in addition to all of the CWD testing...all of which cost money...allot of money.
So again...the original conspiracy therory is that "Its all about the money" or "follow the money".....Im asking follow what money? How is TWRA benifiting financially, or any other way , from this whole CWD mess?
I try to wade through these different conspiracy theories and at least understand the concept but for this one I cant even get started?
There is plenty of Grant money to be had. Especially since they are trying to keep it out of the elk heard in Tn.

Grant money to cover cost of testing and research makes sense....but in the end, after all the smoke clears, I cant see how CWD could be financially benifical to the Agency?
The conspiracy theory of it all being "about the money" doesnt add up to me?

Me either. Just doesn't make any sense. My feelings are that there is no large scale nefarious intended scheme, no wool being pulled over license holders' eyes. Gross incompetence perhaps with a series of conseqentially bad decisions, but not nefarious in intent. Just my own personal thoughts though because we don't really know yet.
