I finally broke down and got my mindset on the right wavelength to measure and shim the bolt on my 457MTR. Not really much to it but I pulled up a good instructional video for moral support If all my measurements and re-measurements were correct I needed a 0.005 shim to get to the .042 rim thickness of the SK S+ that I measured. Closing the bolt afterwards on one of those rounds has just barely a hint of resistance. Not bad for working with a ball peen hammer, crescent wrench, nail for a punch and carpenter's rule for measuring!
