About time to break out the gear~!

Good point Readonly.
Peatmoss is NOT 100% freezeproof. But it covers about 90% of the weather in TN.
It fails when you get a ton of rain, the ground is saturated, then a hard freeze rolls in.

I don't use salt because it is attractive to various critters who will dig up your trap at times to get at the salt.

Thats part of the fun of trapping, figuring out what works for you.
Have you had any problems with rain washing out the salt ?
No I use salt very sparingly with meat moss and if there is a washout I remake all the sets. I have had washouts and been amazed to find a fox in the trap where the peat stood up to a down poor. I have had to chip out sets when skipping the salt and having a freeze follow wet weather, or even a light rain if you let much dirt into the pattern over the peat.

I have done not fur trapping in recent years except a few sets around the house every 3-4 years.

This video is poor quality but shows peat holding up to almost 10 days of daily rain, etc
