I was hesitant to open this thread, "adequate penetration"
hunting bison? hoping for a wooly mammoth re-introduction? i had a 65# Hatfield recurve and put a nearly 700 grain purpleheart shaft almost all the way through a foam block target.a 82lb bow is more than enough
I just came here for the comments and I'm leaving disappointed.I was hesitant to open this thread, "adequate penetration"
those would play hell on groundhogs, squirrels etc.. or cats that keep crapping in your flower pots...
Being brand-spanking new here and not wearing my dollar tree reading glasses, I think it's best for me to simple mention the "Ranch Fairy" on YouTube.I know there is a ton of debate about arrow weight and penetration on the interwebs idk the magic number but I believe my 550grains from a 82lb bow is more than enough.. had a little mishap with a bare shaft earlier
I figure if a bare shaft will penetrate far enough to get stuck in a cinder block wall it will go through a deer

I've learned volumes of information from his videos; particularly the study of FOC.
I shoot about 17% FOC with a 55LB pull, and my arrows zip through. I have to run a new chrono test before I throw out my FPS memories...
Ranch Fairy; highly recommended.
Edit: I do not have a financial stake in anything I post.
I have a smidge of experience with every facet of archery. I cannot say there's anything I agree with that he has to offer when it comes to whitetail hunting with a compound aside from use a quality SHARP fixed blade head. Everything else he stakes his fame on IMO can only be applied to traditional hunting and especially in African big game. Just my .02Being brand-spanking new here and not wearing my dollar tree reading glasses, I think it's best for me to simple mention the "Ranch Fairy" on YouTube.
