Advice on Mouth Call

Started out using HS Strut forever and then tested others. Woodhaven are good but now using Swamp Boys and like them. A single reed is the easiest to learn on and you don't have to be the best. The worst sound I've ever heard in the woods was a hen.

I suggest any of the Woodhaven Ninja Series, especially the Ninja Hammer or the Ninja Venom. All those in that series are thinner latex and easily to blow across. Takes very little pressure to get a sound. Like has been said above, practice, practice & more practice.

If at first you don't succeed don't give up. When I started turkey hunting I bought a couple before season opened and started practicing. I couldn't get a sound out of them at all and relied on a couple of friction calls to call up my first birds. Sometime before season opened the following year I managed to get sounds out of mine and finally figured out how to blow them. I've killed several birds using them since. The real beauty of using them is that you can work with a bird at point blank range without any movement.

Got my call Friday. I've tried it a few times each day and still cannot make a sound. I guess there is a reason I've always avoided learning this. But I'm gonna throw it in a few times each week till I figure it out. For now my friction calls will still be my go to.

Once you maneuver it around in your mouth and begin getting a sound it'll come. It's finding that sweet spot and how to blow it there that can take a while.

Did you watch the video that someone else posted in different thread? He does a great job of showing mouth position etc. Keep at it. You'll get it eventually.
