I am starting to think that pushing the season opener back might be the best compromise.
Not only is opening the season a week or two later the single best solution (not a compromise),
but it is also the least controversial,
causing the least division or conflict among turkey hunters.
If I could personally write the "prescription"
it would be to open the season two weeks later,
but also close it one week later,
meaning the total season length would only be reduced by one week.
IMO, we lose far more longbeards over illegal baiting than anything to do with decoys.
By opening the season two weeks later, the effectiveness of this baiting is greatly reduced,
doing far more to save old longbeards than anything else I can think of.
