I Loosen my drag when I get in from fishing. Helps to keep from denting the drag washer and keep it smooth. Sometimes I need to adjust during a fight but not often. I think they are trying to "drama" it up. I quit watching a couple good fishing channels when they adopted the clickbait formula.
"your never going to guess what we caught" "and then THIS happened" "Shocking Catch on this magic bait"
Spend 5 minutes pimping everything from your lure to your deodorant. Be sure to like and subscribe, and comment, and buy some stuff !
Cue loud Rock music as you add the obligatory boat ride clip.
Fade music while you tell the viewers how the Fishpro jock strap makes those bumpy rides so much more comfortable. Then go on about how
great your technique using XYZ lures (click the sponsor link below) is.
Put on a live bait.
Fake several bites to make the fishing seem better. "its red hot! " "these big ones are Smart ! "
Over exaggerated hook set.
Next you whip your rod from side to side while fighting fish with your hand on the reel loosening the drag to add drama and make that reel drag sound.
Cue More Loud heavy metal music.
Pimp your rod, lure, line, swivel, leader, sunscreen, hat, glasses, jock strap, coffee, toilet paper, lunch snacks, boat, oil change place, local lawn mowing service, etc...
Be sure to pump the rod so fast that there is plenty of slack in the line so that "monster" 4 lb fish can get off.
Try to keep the fish in the water as long as possible to make it seem like a bigger fish.
Be sure to pant and talk to the camera in broken sentences.
More loud rock music, because nothing says fishing like blasting guitars !
Even better is if that "big hammer" shakes off at the boat. Woooooieee that was going to be a PB fish!!!
When you land that "chunky monster" 4 lb grouper Be sure to block the camera so there is no frame of reference to see how small it really is.
Quickly hold the fish at max arms length close to the camera so its a little out of focus and takes up the whole frame so it looks huge.
Make sure you sound like you are trying to pass a pine cone while holding up that monster !
If the fish is really small, be sure to sling some water on the lens to further obscure the size of this whopper !
Release the fish quickly so the viewers cant judge the size of the fish.
Tell the viewers you need to catch your breath as you give a sermon on conservation and releasing fish to save the planet.
Obligatory product placement clips around the boat featuring your Yeti cooler and tumbler, Costa Sunglasses, Salt Life fishing hat, ugly sandals, a pile of rods, close up shot of your fishing reels, You grinning like a possum eating briars, Sponsor logo shirt, Lure on a rod, livewell full of baits.
Sunset shot with more groveling for subscribers, comments, and likes.
2 minutes actual fishing 18 minutes of pimping and hype.
