Any word from the commission meeting today?

3 week Spring turkey season in the South. What a friggin joke. They need to take that ridiculous Yankee crap back up North ;)

Question for scn or anyone else "in the know." Although they changed the season setting process to bi-annual, during the meeting some of the commissioners (particularly Woodson) mentioned addressing the turkey regulations again next year. How difficult is it going to be for the Commission to change regulations during a "between year" if they finally agree that there is a need to do so?

I fully support conserving the resource. But I don't want to go to. 3 week season and 1-2 bird limit forever either. I don't know why it's so hard to adjust seasons according to what the population is.

Also don't know why they can't make zones in the turkey hurt areas.

I'm glad they acknowledged they problem, and one of the first big steps is finally protecting hens. I don't care that 700 isn't a lot, but it's a step in the right direction.

To the NWTF. Like I was not going to renew it next year. I was tired of all the BS about raising money and such in the magazines, sick of how the show in Nashville was no longer about turkey hunting, it was about them making money and partying and nothing more.

But with those letters of recommendation I may have to go ahead and renew it at least one more year, since they act like they care instead of trying to earn a buck with sink, avian x, and mossy oak all over their magazines.

Finally something about the actual turkey comes out.

This is becoming a joke. Not doing anything 5 years ago when we told them about the problem to now next year they will do way too much. It simple. It all started going to crap when the limit was raised. Change the limit back to 2 and it will slowly come back. Geez Louise.

NWTF actually does a good amount for the state. The good thing is, the more money they raise, the more money goes to conservation. They had a B+ from a couple of nonprofit rating groups. I think their transparency was an a if i remember correctly.

Seems like commonsense huh? It was going great, they changed it, it's not as good, change it back. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard of a decision, but I know there is more to it than that, but can decreasing the limit by at least one be that difficult?

In my opinion after 4 or 5 years of a 3 week season and a 2 bird limit you will only need to hunt about 4 times a year.

Well then i am against that. Who only wants to hunt 4 times a year? I would be broke from going to other states to hunt, my wife would be plum crazy from having me around the house more and i would probably be more productive at work. Those things sound terrible.

Yes, and the last post was sarcasm just to be sure everyone understands.

Kentucky spring season was April 14 to May 6th. That is 22 days. Our kill was down about 6000 birds this year. We have always had a 3 week season so you plan your hunts accordingly. I am not seeing as many turkeys on the farms that I hunt the last few seasons. I called in a longboard this year an did not shoot him. First time that ever happened but he was the only long beard that I saw on that farm all year. I only saw 3 jakes all season an they were all on one farm. :stir:

Please, someone explain this to me. Honestly I dread bringing this crap to this forum, however thousands of TN hunters read this and take it for gospel. This is what we are dealing with people, we have to get education on the forefront.

You know, I've given up a lot on FB. I'm testing the waters on instagram and so far it's so much better. It just kills me to see someone with so much influence post complete BS.
I'm about to follow Rockhound's lead and calm them out on everything until I get blocked. [emoji14]

Agreed. Once the birds have a chance to rebound, the hunting will be incredible.

People don't believe me, but back in the day(2 bird limit and hundreds of birds on my farm) I NEVER shot a bird that was less than 3 years old, and most were 4 or older. I only shot about 1 out of 6 or 7 that I called in, and never shot a bird without seeing the spurs before shooting to confirm they were at least 1.25 inches. But it was easy to do that, when you called in 5-10 birds to within 20 yards per day everytime I hunted. Now I only do that with my last tag because I may only get 1 in shotgun range every other to third day hunting or so... I was happy to eat my last tag this year hunting a bird with 1.5 in spurs, and passed up a younger bird in hopes I could get the stud, but he was smarter than me (or I was dumber than him, not sure which one :) ) But I enjoy the hunt itself, I've killed so many in the past I don't really get that much of a thrill from seeing them flop, except for looking forward to eating them.

It will never be like that again imo
