Anybody ever miss a gimme shot?

I missed a jake yesterday at about 25 yds. I was swung way around to my right and it felt awkward, Probably shouldnt have shot, probably should have waited, but dang I was excited. Lets hear about them misses so I dont feel like I am the only one. :grin:
 
Yes on Easter Sunday I called one in off private onto public land. He must have been no more than 30 yards and I shot over his head, all on video. Unloaded 2 more shells as he ran off and watched him disappear. I was hurting bad until I got another chance right at sunset and killed one at 25 yards. Always make sure you are looking down the barrel and not over it...
 
Yep.. and this morning I called one up for my buddy and he missed a wide open shot at 20 and when he was running away ....
 
Missed one two years ago at 14 yards. Than again running at 20. Then shot a tree at 35. It sucks, but it happens. I won't ever forget it.
 
Yupp. Yesterday I was walking old logging road and rounded scorned �nd there he was at 30 yards. I have gun lined in to shoot at saddles and it'll take off the top of their head well apparently I forgot that and aimed at his head and clean missed.

thats somewhat confusing...you have your gun sighted in to shoot 3"-4" high? why not sight it in to zero and aim where you want to hit?
 
It's logical to me that if you've not missed much, you've probably not hunted much. 100% is misleading when you're 1 for 1 or 3 for 3, and that goes for any game. That's hunting.

This is going to be way harder to take since you're fresh from the miss, but be proud that you got that close and saw the bird! Great job!
 
i have not missed a "layup" shot yet but have had my share of misses and im sure the "layup" miss will happen at some point.

layup to me is sitting with gun on knee pointing straight ahead with bird under 20yds unalarmed all in normal lighting circumstances.
 
Missed several over the years but always chalked'em up to a lesson learned:
8 yards - way too close for the pattern to do its thing.
Gun on my lap and try to quickdraw a bird - forget about it.
Whistle so he stops - works ok for deer but not turkeys.
30 yards pretty as a picture in a wide open cattle pasture clipped low to the ground - to this day I still think someone slipped a blank into my turkey vest.

If you hunt long enough it's bound to happen a time or 3.
 
Yes - 50 yard shot that should have been a gimme - but when I double checked after the shot there were two cedar limbs hanging down that must have stopped lots of the shot.

BUT much much worse was the one I missed last year that was about 10 steps from me. That close is like shooting one with a 22 rifle since the shot column is so tight. I guess I pulled off a little or he moved his little frickin neck.

I must have been lucky cause my first turkey ever was a jake at 6 yards. Must have hit him with the edge of the pattern because his head wasn't jellied up or blown apart or anything. But he was stone cold dead, that's for sure.
 
When your shooting super tight pattern it's not all that hard to do. Harder to miss if you have a red dot though. I can attest to that. Most memorable for me was on Ft Campbell I shot one and was waiting for my buddy to shoot the other and he said no way he could see it so he told me to shoot. Clean miss. Same yardage at about 30.

Bc the screw that holds the up and down adjustment on the rear sight the head is stripped out ( previous owner) and I cant get it out so its there till I put the scope on before next season. For now I have to just remember to aim at the waddles lol
