I was thinking of getting a halo sight for my 870, anyone use the b-square mount and if so how well does it work

i would advise to stray away from one. but that's just me. i don't know anyone that has had one or has one now that likes it and would recommend it. i would recommend you getting it drilled if possible. or go another route.

I have used a b-square for yrs, works great. U can take it and scope off and when u put it back on scope remains zeroed.. May not look the greatest but very convenient if you use the gun for other purposes.

What problems did they have? I don't see much to go wrong.

getting jarred off by the heavy recoil, screws never would stay tight. just several things. I know of one that does have one and loves it with no problems but the others always something going wrong with them. but like I said that's just me. I have read of tons of people having great success with them. me personally I wouldn't recommend it.

Interesting. I've shot a bunch of 3.5 Hevishot with mine while testing chokes and never had a problem. I think I put some blue Loctite on my threads during installation. Like I said, drilling and tapping the receiver is a cleaner install but the b square is a viable option.

I use one on a Stoeger 2000 and limited out last years on six hunts. However, you should check/tighten the screw after a couple of shots, once it became lose.

Mine works fine. Just round of the back corners if your gun kicks very much.
I had one on my ol Wingmaster years ago and it would cut my trigger finger every shot. Used it one season then just went back to holdin a little high and to the left. I wasn't but 16 or 17. Didn't have enough sense to just round the corners off

I've had one on a 11-87 and 870 for years without the first problem. If you are using your shotgun without the scope at other times of the year it makes for an easy way to put the scope on and off.

Got one of the first B square many moons ago. Then they were rather crude, "no longer from what is see". Needed to clean it up quite a bit (nock off the sharp edges, radius every corner etc) but has worked well for me for the past 8+ years.

I have used a B-Square mount on one of my 870sm turkey guns.... If drilling & tapping isn't an option, the B-Square will give you an option that works....

BUT, as said, round off the corner closest to your trigger finger.... after about 2 shots trying to zero a red dot scope, my finger got ripped open from the sharp corner.... my fix for this was to put one of the Shur-Shot stocks on the gun.... it gets your grip down away from the mount.

My second issue, if you shoot that gun often, you will have to remove the mount screws to take the trigger assembly out inorder to clean/lube it. The screws replace the factory pins in the receiver. Frequent removal will strip the allen head slots in the heads as they aren't very deep anyway to keep a low profile screw head.

And if you have the mount on long enough, it could develope a mark on the receiver in the shape of the mount profile.

Here is what mine looked like:

I wish I had either one of y'all's scopes.....

It may be the same scope in both pics. I bought an 870 from Grizzly a couple years ago and the scope was part of the package deal. It is a nice one. Unfortunately I don't think Leupold makes it anymore.
