Banded turkey I killed several years ago at LBL.......

Shotgun is a Remington 1148, 12 ga, 2 3/4 in chamber, 30 in full choke.
Used Winchester high brall #2 shot.

Pretty cool....

But for some reason, I've never cared anything about bands and don't understand the fascination about them. Especially how nuts some folks get over them. I have a friend that I've duck hunted with. His dad is crazy about bands. When you shoot a duck, his dog retrieves, and the duck goes into the pile. At the end of the day, if theres a duck missing a foot, you know it had a band and his dad pocketed it without saying anything :)

Pretty neat IMO, especially with turkeys. There seem to be fewer killed compared to ducks, which adds some allure to getting a turkey with a band. Agree with mega on duck jewelry, just do not get it, but then again, I am not a duck fanatic either. Thanks for sharing, love the old school pic.

I'm a big band enthusiast. I don't have many, so I think the rarity drives a lot of my excitement. I've duck hunted - or at least tagged along on duck hunts - since before I was old enough to remember. In good places in the river bottoms where we kill a lot of ducks. In 25 years I've seen thousands of ducks killed. Exactly 3 have been banded. And I killed a banded dove a few years ago. I know people who hunt closer to refuges not far from where I usually hunt. They may kill 10+ bands a year. But when you duck hunt a lot and only see a band every 5-10 years, it's exciting when one turns up. But turkeys are my favorite animal on earth and hunting them is my favorite thing to do. So a turkey band would be the ultimate for me. Although I certainly see the silliness of getting that excited over a worthless piece of aluminum that simply exists to acquire research data.

That's awesome. I would like to shoot a banded turkey, but they are always fun no matter what.

What is also cool is the old gun and shells. Everybody now days thinks you have to shoot 20ga TSS to kill turkeys, when plenty of old guns like that with what shells you had do the job just fine.

I think that's a bit of a strawman. But I agree that it's a cool old pic with a cool old gun.

My passion is waterfowl. Hands down. Always has been, however l do have one turkey l took banded, with a TWRA band years ago from the Mississippi river bottoms. l have quite a few from ducks, geese. We went a stretch in the blind that finally ended the last day of duck season, 978 ducks between bands. My buddy's blind killed a band this yr, the 16th duck of the season, Figure?

I've been extremely lucky with bands. Took 2 banded/GPSd birds from South Carolina a few days apart. The next yr I took another banded bird in Oklahoma!
