BCS Computer Standings

I said on Volquest that the commissioners need to get together and agree on which metrics they want to use & how to weigh them then use that data for a new BCS (CFPC?) to rank each week. And get rid of these byes for conference champs. Top 4 spots, that's it.

Here are the final rankings from a simulate BCS computer model. I'm always interested in how BCS model compares to final CFP committee. As expected, they are pretty close:

BCS:

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Texas
5. Ohio State
6. Penn State
7. Tennessee
8. Indiana
9. Boise State
10. Arizona State
11. Alabama
12. SMU

College Football Playoff:

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Texas
4. Penn State
5. Notre Dame
6. Ohio State
7. Tennessee
8. Indiana
9. Boise State
10. SMU
11. Alabama
12. Arizona State

I agree. Looking at the top 12 this year you have a strong argument for 6 or 7 teams that have no business even sniffing at the playoffs. Some bottom feeder manages to get lucky and bust a bracket early and knock out a potential key team like Texas or OSU that has a legitimate run at it or they manage to injure a key player (s) on that team potentially hurting their chances at survival in the remaining brackets.

I do think the cream rises to the top but as we saw with the michigan V OSU game there is the potential for a upset.

We were fine with the top 4 spots and the invite system. This 12 team garbage is exactly that . Garbage.

We went from 2 to 4 because arguments that #3 deserved a shot. We went from 4 to 12 because arguments #5 deserved a shot. When evaluating any "injustice" from arguments that #13 deserved a shot, it would probably be prudent to remember why we expanded to 12 teams, which is to not include teams that claim they deserved a shot at the playoff, but to include teams that deserved a shot at the title. In that regard, I think the 12 team playoff has achieved that purpose. There aren't any teams left out that deserve a shot at the title because they've gone deep enough to include teams that have no business being there.

If you really think about it the playoffs start at the kickoff of each teams first game. Win those and don't have any stupid losses and your good.

Yes. An 8-team playoff would ensure the "right teams" (maybe up to 5 or 6 teams) are in the playoff except the automatic qualifiers has pushed the need up to 12.

The mission is to select the best teams. A lot of folks talk in terms of teams that "deserve" to be in it which can be different than "best" which is where I think a lot of disagreements gets started with fans. And the ultimate issue is there is not a perfect way to determine and rank the best teams.
MISSION
The committee's task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and then assign the teams to the playoff bracket and their game sites.

If a bottom feeder beats you than they are better than you that day. That's why they play the game. LANK.
If Alabama would have been good enough to be one of the 12 you wouldn't be whining and you know it. You cannot just say congratulations to the 12 and talk about how the tide will be back next year? Goodness. Y'all got beat by Vandy AND got soonered by Ok!

lol. Every fan of every team that DIDNT WIN a conference is complaining about the auto bids!! Win your conference! I think the auto bids are the greatest thing to happen to college sports in years! I bet the conference champions will get great recruits because of this and make the games even better!!!

I'd rather watch 12 teams play in meaningful game than 4, and then bowls
Good point. I was more interested in the various conference championship games because of the play-in nature of the games. I'll probably watch playoff games that I wouldn't pay much attention to if they were regular bowl games with the identical matchup.
