Not really. You're right on track imo.

The beard is how we are identifying a legal bird. If three birds come in together, I'm taking the one with the paint-brush beard, and I'm not studying spurs through binocs.

Spurs are just a bonus. I have killed a few that after the kill I discovered that their spurs were either broken off or they just had nubs. Didn't take away from the hunt in any way!

I just worry about the beard.
When they are clicking as they walk in I know the spurs are good ones because they are hitting each other. :D
