Best automatic turkey gun

It's like Ford, Chevy, & Dodge brother..... What can you afford/want to spend? I love my Remington 1187. I have hunted lots of game with it. I have an 870 I turkey hunt with, it shoots a little harder!!

remington makes some nice ones. H&R makes a cheap one but it only holds 3" shells but thats all you really need.

I agree the 1187 is tough to beat!

I tried that route, I think the 10ga is just too big to begin with.... even with a good choke tube my 870 patterned alot better than the 10ga @ 40 yards..... may not have the distance but if there is no pattern, distance means nothing!!!

Is there any particular reason you want an automatic? Like someone here already said.... its like ford, chevy, or even......dodge ;) Tell us what you look for in a gun and maybe we can help you pinpoint a gun fit for you

I can think of three reasons I prefer an automatic over a pump:

1) Less carry noise --- pump actions tend to "rattle" when you walk, or sometimes just when you reposition your gun to take a shot. I don't like unexpected unnatural noises that can be heard by a turkey.

2) Usually less noise when the next shell is chambered after you fire a shot.

3) Slightly less recoil

Try different tubes, I have seen 410. through ten guages with horrible and great patterns. Bottom line is the more pellets the more potential pellets in the head. It might interest you to know my grandfather has ruled out all twelve guages because he had one twenty gauge which patterned better than his one twelve. It sounds to me like your experiment was just as scientific.

On a side note every one of those semi-autos shotguns posted so far were classified as a assault weapon in several bills in different states last year.

VERY good reminder! Guys & gals, if you're not in the NRA, NOW is the time to join!!!

All I can say is: They can take em if they can find em!!

Browning Gold 24 inch barrel...killed bird over 60 yds with standard federal turkey loads and factory turkey choke.

IMO, the Benelli's are the best, but you will pay a pretty penny.

For the money (price vs. value) hard to beat the Mossberg 935.

Seems the Mossberg 835 pump is the most popular turkey gun out there. The 935 is basically the autoloader version of the 835.
