What is the best factory ammo for deer hunting in 25-06? Also I'm saving up for reloading kit so what would the best bullet be? thanks for any help.

I had excellent results using winchester 120gr Positive Expanding Points. If handloading, the 115gr Berger VLD or Nosler Ballistic Tips would be my choice. Given this is assuming you are talking about bullets for deer sized game. These would still be good choices if you are looking for a varmint round, but there are other options that might work better.

Factory ammo...Hard to beat the Remington Core-Lokts. They don't call them the Deadliest Mushroom in the Woods for nothing.

If you're handloading the Nosler Ballistic Tips are hard to beat.

I've killed a few with the 100gr corelokts, and they do the job, but they seem to lack a lot on a lung shot. Didn't seem to be much "shock" value. I like something that hits hard. The Hornaday did better for me, much shorter tracking.

I'd get a variety of factory ammo and find out what shoots best in your rifle. Let your rifle tell you which one is best. Any bullet will drop a deer if you put it in the right place.

Fusion
Accubonds
Interbonds
Interlocks
Winchester Positive Expanding
Ballistic tips
Sierra Gameking.

factory ammo

Fed Premium 117 gr Sierra BTSP GK oad,,chronise 3120 from my 26 inch bbl and is 3/4 moa accurate,

for reloading my favorite load for this rifle is 100 NBT and 56 grs IMR 4831

the most accurate load I ever came across is the 120 Sierra Game King BTHP over 50 grs of IMR 4350,,it is slow at 2975 and has a terrible BC,,but for plain accuracy I cant find a load to beat it.

I read an article several years ago that Russell Thornberry (Buckmasters writer/prostaff) wrote about the 25-06. He stated that he previously worked as a guide in Alberta and his weapon of choice was the 25-06. Though he said he tried several different bullets, the best results he had was with the 115 grain Nosler Partition. The name of the article was 25-06 Deadly on Deer.... He said that he shot deer from 20 yds - 400 yds and in his words "dropped them in their tracks like a scalded spider". I've never owned a 25-06 but have always been intrigued by the article I read about it. Federal loads this bullet in it's premium line of ammunition. You might give it a try...

I haven't shot many deer with the 25-06, but I have used the federal premium 117 gr sierra game king. All of the deer fell in their tracks or within 75 yards. I think the nosler partition would also be hard to beat.

You definitely want to go with 115-120 gr, as you have a large powder capacity. My custom 25-06 has a 26 inch barrel and I handload 120 nosler solid base boattails over a max load accur 3100- 3240 fps by my chrony. Heavier bullets always give you a better sectional density and usually a better ballistic coefficient. Plus they buck the wind much better. 117 hornaday is a great bullet. 120 gr. Corelockts are good cheap bullets. I buy them in bulk (bullet) and handload them . Over course accubonds and interbonds are great bullets as well. I think you can find both in 115-117 gr.

Read the same article as well as that is what made me build a 25-06 with a 26 inch barrel. I believe you can still get 120 partitions which would weven be bebetter than the 115's. Throneberry's was built on 700 action and had a 4 countour shilen if my memory serves me.

my baby,,Rem 700 26 inch Shaw bbl,,I call it Elvis,,been overdosed for 30 years,,LOL

it has an extremely long throat and to reach the lands the bullet has to be seated way out,,it takes a right smart more powder to reach speeds listed in any manual,,I have loaded up some insane loads .25 grains at a time trying to find the top end and I always get scared and quit before I see any pressure signs,,

I would guess that it has been shot at least 3,000 times on that barrel with loads 2-3 grs over book max,,
