Man it was good to catch some smallies. Me and a coworker got off work around 3 and picked up a buddy of mine to go fish a secret spot where they'd been wearing em out.
If I counted right I caught 20 fish total...2 or 3 largemouth, 2 rock bass, and a big ole spot. One guy caught 10 and other didn't count but caught at least as much as me.
Every lure I tied on caught fish. 4" mini lizard, big bite crawfish, fluke, tiny brush hog, slider worm, and then when it got dark, we wore them out on topwater for a while. I caught a few smallmouth and a big spot after dark on a H2O Express walking bait that looks like a Spook. I'd hear the splash and rattles every time a fish hit in the dark. Haven't had topwater action that good as far as I can remember. That was one of, if not the biggest spotted bass I've caught.
We kept a bunch of them, but most were released. Fried them in peanut oil, but a few of the smallmouth fillets were blackened as is my favorite way to cook smallies. Also fried some jalapeño cheddar bacon hushpuppies. Cooked a couple pieces of backstrap too. It was dang good.
I got a bunch of video too, but don't have time to edit or upload it now. I'll post when that is ready.
