I'm a shotgun nut, love em, but my stables are all dedicated to waterfowl and clays. I've taken several turkeys with my shotguns, and was very happy with the weight of my Maxus even though it had the 28" barrel. I traded the Maxus last year for a SBE 2, and I will likely be taking that to the woods this year, but I'm considering adding a dedicated turkey gun to the lineup.

What are y'alls thoughts on the turkey package guns out there? I need downrange performance (obviously) and lightweight/convenient carrying. Other than that, no real limits on what I'm looking at.

If I was gonna buy a new one I'd get a Rem 870-sps turkey/predator or the Winchester pump turkey gun.
X2

Just for turkey..... mossberg 835 with 20" barrel. JEBS choke and Winchester lb 4s. Thro a ff3 on top to make it sexy!
And get you one of those clear faceshields nba players wear to keep from breaking your nose! [emoji1]

I held a Mossberg SA-20 today and was tempted to buy it. It's a semi-auto and light as a feather.

Don't let those with recoil sensitivity steer you away. I've never complained about recoil when shooting at a bird. When patterning put it in a sled. A 20" inch 835 is easy on the wallet, easy to maneuver in cover, and patterns great with most commercial loads. X2 what roost said about red dots. A red dot will help you fine tune your point of impact.

I'm just bagging on the mossberg for sure....sorta. I've always held the notion though that I don't really want a gun I can't go out and shoot or pattern for fun. I've never met a guy personally that really loved shooting an 835 for fun. They are heavy, clunky and kick like a mule. Just not my cup of tea is all. If all you want is a gun you plan on shooting 4x a year then by all means though. I put a Nova in the same boat to be honest. Again just my own opinion though which don't really mean much to most lol. I wouldn't own a mossberg minus the 930 if I won it for free. You obviously don't need a $1500 shotgun for it to be good and if I HAD to own a pump again I'd just get an 870 or Browing. To be clear not knocking anyone shooting or owning one. I think everyone has a gun or brand they hate for one reason or anothrt

Mossbergs I've had in the past rattled and had very stiff safety's that I don't like the location of. That stuff steers me to other brands.

It's a sweet little gun!
My Dad just bought one. It has no noticeable recoil with a 3" shell when I've shot it. I'm going to have to borrow it this year!

Depends on what you wanna spend. I shoot a m2 20 with a pistol grip for the lightweight. Mossbergs do rattle, kick, and are heavy but they do pattern well. Browning BPS pattern extremely well, built like a tank but also weigh as much as one. For a dedicated turkey gun I would deff get one with a pistol grip. Weatherby sa-459 are nice. You honestly can't go wrong with any of them. Most are going to pattern good so I would figure out what specs I want. Also don't forgot about the 20s. With today's ammo they are as deadly as yesteryears 12s and a joy to carry. Slap a vortex venom on whatever you get. Got a fastfire 2 and buddy has the 3 and its hands down the better sight just for all the light intensity adjustments.

If I didn't just build the 870, it probably would've come home with me!

I have the Mossberg SA 20 turkey thug edition and it is a great turkey gun! The gun comes with a rail for a scope but already has beard buster sights on it. The gun is light as a feather like the others have said , you put federal HW# 7 and a Carlson's choke it is a turkey machine! Mine has turkey thug written on it but they have taken that off of it for some reason. The new model is number 75790 and is just called Mossberg SA 20 turkey.

I got a 870 with the Remington Extra Full choke tub. Shot one of my Dads while I was in high school and college and finally found the exact gun I wanted the other day. I also had a Browning silver with a 26 inch barrel and paired a Primos Jelly Head with it. Shooting Winchester #5. That thing was absolutely deadly. Wish I still had that gun just for turkeys. If I had to go buy a brand new gun right now, I would prolly go buy a new Benelli SBE2 with a 24 inch barrel and put a pistol grip on it. I am however I am getting one of the new SBE 3 in about a month after I fix my wife's car which I just ran over....

What kind of pistol grip do you have on M2 20ga? I wasn't aware that one was made for that gun.
The 12ga Benelli steady grip. It sticks out from the receiver a tad being it was made for a 12ga frame but it works. If you get one and the stock doesn't go down you need this. They came with 2 different retaining nuts. The other one that they come with isn't threaded all the way and has a swell part way down that the stock can't slip over.
