What public land near nashville gives the best chance to get a buck? Looking to start hunting this year. I have a bow and have been shooting it for years but have never hunted.

I would pick a couple of WMAs that are convenient for you to get to and scout, pre-scout and scout more. Find access spots that others don't or can't get to.
But to answer your question, just by size I'd pick Cheatham. But it gets a lot of pressure. Don't discount the others though.

Every piece of public around Nashville has bucks. I'd encourage you to scout as much as possible the next 60 days. Good luck and keep us posted!

Forget best chance at a buck. If you're just starting then get to know the public convenient for you and try to shoot the first few deer that give you the opportunity to gain experience. No matter how much you shoot targets it's whole new ballgame when I deer gets in range.

Since you are new to hunting here is what I recommend.....
What WMA is closest to you?
Focus on that one.
500 acres you know like the back of your hand with only 2 bucks on it is WAY better than 10000 acres with 4x the bucks that you don't know anything about.

JK, its prob too late but you should've been out scouting yesterday when the snow was fresh. Scouting one Time in the snow = 5-6 scouting trips without the snow. its like cheating. seriously there are good bucks on all pieces of public here. but if you've never hunted I'd really recommend killing some does first. once you find where they like to hang out, you'll be in the right spot for bucks anyway by the time November rolls around.
