Catoosa & LBL both have lots of deer, and can be hunted without drawing a permit. be warned though - in early season, there are more ticks there than anywhere else i've ever been. we quit hunting turkeys at Catoosa over that. found over 150 on me one weekend...

I've done the same. Hope we get one more snow I didn't make it to one of my farms.

Forget best chance at a buck. If you're just starting then get to know the public convenient for you and try to shoot the first few deer that give you the opportunity to gain experience. No matter how much you shoot targets it's whole new ballgame when I deer gets in range.
