Best Turkey Gun under $450

Pump or semi auto? I know the mossberg 835 (which is a pump) is a turkey slayer and is not expensive.

Remington 870 20 gauge w/21" barrel. Pair it with a Sumtoy 562.5 choke and 3" Federal Heavyweight #7's and you've got a turkey killing machine. :super:

835 without a doubt and I don't even like them..

I don't think I can bring myself to buy one but there is zero doubt that for the money spent, ease of set up, and overall leathality, 835 is it.

Tight budget lol... mine was $170 brand new. I'll proabbly spend between 2 and 300 on my next one, but haven't felt the need yet. Long as I feel like carrying this heavy chunk of metal around I will use it.

Agree with the above but I did like mine but wanted something else and sold it to my brother in law. A Mossberg 500 is another option. It shoots 3" shells where the 835 can shoot 3 1/2".

835 for sure but I don't like Remington but I have had both the 835 and the 870 and the 835 was a very tight shooting gun both had a jelly head choke tube and shot hevi shot. But like I said I am bias as I don't like any Remington but not a Mossberg fan either. Either would work good though.

I had a brand new 835. Probably hadn't shot a box thru it and sold it to a coworker. Went the same night and bought a wore out 870. Couldn't be happier

Big or small, kill em all

870. Never seen a Mossberg make it through a shotgun class ever without some sort of break down.

I like options so I recommend four guns under 450.

1. Mossberg 835. 12 ga pump with a 10 ga. Barrel chambered in 12 ga so the spread pattern is better. Pump action, accepts all forms of shell 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2. Great turkey gun but the overbored barrel won't accept slugs I've been told.

2. Mossberg 535. 12 ga. Pump accepts all types of shells.

3 Mossberg 500 pump action accepts 2 3/4 and 3" shells only. Very reliable and can be found cheap. Make sure to get one with a barrel that accepts screw in choke tubes. Factory spread will work but not near as well.

4 Remington 870 accepts 2 3/4 and 3" only, pump action, like the 500 threaded barrel for choke is best.

Next I recommend optics, red dot, fiber optic double bead, etc etc. there are a billion options that work well, single bead works but not as well.

I like the Longbeard Xr shells because of the price vs result.

It is good to get an aftermarket choke. Not absolute but very beneficial.

The guys on here can help you find a good ammo, choke, barrel length combination once you find your gun.

I fell you can get any of these guns with ammo, aftermarket choke and optic with shells under 450 if you looke hard. I see one of the four guns on Facebook gun pages every week for around or under 300.

Happy hunting

JUST MY OPINION but you can get a Stoeger M3000 for that or under these days and you can then use it for other stuff as well. great auto loader that is easy to tune for turkeys, light weight and fun to shoot. even if you want one to use only for turkeys you can get a pistol grip stock for it and turn it into a great turkey machine.
