Best Youth Turkey Gun

Makes sense and appreciate the info. I would prefer she kill quickly whatever we're hunting (as would everyone on this forum) so confidence and effectiveness is king. I assume the # of shots per season makes that a moot point. I'm more partial to deer hunting so turkey is newer to me. I like the idea of getting up and moving around - for me and the kids.
 
The 870 youth & 11-87 compact are hard to beat. My 7 y/o is smaller frame and the 870 is just to big. I got a Mossberg 510 Mini in 20ga. Has a very short butt stock and 1" spacer and is drilled and tapped already. I got it for 335 NIB, comes in Black, Mossy Oak Obsession or Infinity camo. Super light weight and kicks hard with 7/8oz 8.5 dove loads. I can't image shooting turkey loads with it. I would have gotten the .410 version but we also hunt in VA and you can't use .410 for turkey. I bought a HS Strut turkey choke for 5.00 NIB off Ebay and it will destroy the target at 25 yards. I'll try to dig up the pic of the target.

I bought my oldest son his first gun many years ago and it was a 870 youth "turkey" model, came with extended choke and Advantage camo stock and forend. He let me drill and tap it several years back and I put a Leupold "Turkey Ranger" scope on it, its a fixed power 2 1/2x, a joy to tote around in the turkey woods. Last year I bought a Winchester SXP, which was a mistake, as I am so used to Remingtons and how they work, I was never happy. I did trade it back in February for my very own 870 Youth in full camo, bought components to load TSS, and am quite happy. BUT I found this single shot Bakail 20 ga youth I had to have. It was not threaded for chokes so I sent it off to Skeets Gun Shop in Oklahoma to have the barrel chopped from the factory 24" down to 20" and have it threaded for Remchokes, drilled and tapped for Weaver base. It weighed 5# 4oz out of the box, and this sir may well become my favorite gun to hunt turkeys. I will get it back maybe in another couple weeks, hopefully before season ends. I paid $114.00 for it NIB. Here is a picture I found on the internet. I will put another Konus Pro 2 1/2x on it as well. For $63.00 they are clear as a bell.

Lot of great options I'll look into. Thanks for the help and feel free to pass along any other suggestions. Appreciate the info - my wife may not as the wallet may take a hit but I certainly do :).
 
One more option is the Winchester Youth pump 20 gauge.
The forearm on a youth 870 was still too far away for my son to feel comfortable holding it up due to his short arms.

I can't remember the exact model number but the forearm set back quite a bit farther than any other I looked at.

Notice how far back the forearm is, and that is with the action closed.
 
That does sit pretty far back and a good option. Thanks for sharing. My 14 yr old should have long enough arms I think but something to consider for sure.
