Just joined on here so if this post is out of place, please excuse me... I'll learn the ropes soon enough. Just feeling blessed and wanted to share. Having a personal best year so far. Just learned how to Turkey hunt going on 4 seasons now... Had a great teacher (Bvoss- I swear that guy is half turkey). Although I killed a nice Tom my second year by myself, it's been a process to get my confidence up enough to really feel like I am getting it. This year has certainly helped. 3 weeks ago, I braved some public land 1 week into the season, and watched a Tom with 5 hens at 100 yards for about 25 minutes. After cutting real aggressively on my slate, I convinced the boss hen to come after me, and she brought the whole crew including the gobbler. Put him down at 29 steps. Double beard 11 in & 8 in, and 1 1/4 spurs. Just this morning, in the middle of a severe thunderstorm, I decided to go after a Tom I saw on a private 80 acre farm just the day before. He gobbled a few times then pitched down around 250 yards from me. Everything (box & slate) was soaked, so I had to rely on my mouth call which I am still learning. A few soft yelps, clucks, and purrs and 30 minutes later he came in quite. Put him down at 42 yards. Old bird... 10 in beard, 1 broke spur, and 1 that was exactly 1 1/2 inches. Realizing today that I have called in 2 good birds the last few weeks has been a huge confidence boost. Anyways, I know it may not mean much to a bunch of pros, but I am pretty excited. Will post pics later. Also, anxious to keep learning so I'll probably be asking a whole lot of questions while im on here. Thanks in advance for helping this novice.

Dang! that's an awesome public land bird! Welcome to TNdeer. Tons of very good and helpful people on here. I have learned invaluable amounts of advice from people here. Hope you get the same and make some friends here.
