All that comes with experience man just keep your head up. This is exactly why some folks like optics though takes all the guess work out.

Looking down at the bead is a common problem especially in turkey hunting where the shooting stance is usually not optimal. Just got to practice proper eye alignment and get a quick checklist system going forward. If you have to rush the shot then pass and try for another one or hunt him another day.
checklist is what I need and I seem to forget about any such list when there is a turkey in front of me with its head in the air looking for me.

When it gets to where it isn't exciting and a huge adrenalin rush that makes you forget checklists, it is probably time to do something else.

Hang in there!

That's where I disagree. Hunting is about training your mind to have control of the situation. You have to learn to think and process thoughts properly. Proper eye alignment is easy achieved with practice to the point it is just habit but you have to get your mind trained to think and make sure you are set up and lined up correctly before you squeeze one off.

You are 100% correct on the checklist. My shotgunning is pretty ingrained now, but I have to do it with every archery shot. My point was that the best part of hunting is the huge adrenalin rush when it all comes together, and that if it ever gets to the point where I don't have to overcome it to run through a list, I'll hang it up.

Thanks scn for the recommendation on the sight. Might look into it. Now that I am p.o'ed at myself for missing again I think I will remember to make the next shot count, lol

I still don't understand the coyote, I lined up that shot pretty well. Bead on the head and squeezed it off and the critter took off running. Probably died in the thicket

I shot a coyote with magblends last year. It looked like dust blew off his side when I shot. He crossed a field and I never found him. I doubt he survived.
they are tough critters maybe one of these days I will kill one and get to pick it up lol

Heard that lol I gut shot one with a bow a couple years ago at 15 yards. Found where he pulled some of his intestines out and blood tracked him to his den. Nasty smelling

Don't get down young man.... good advice has already been given.... Just remember if you are using a bead... you have to tell yourself to keep your cheek on the stock and aim down the barrel.... Raise your head and you will shoot over him.

I ain't worried about the rest of season, just mad that I screwed up a textbook perfect opening morning hunt. It will get better next time the hammer is dropped....

I guess you know now why some of us like to put 100's of pellets in them instead of just a couple lucky ones. Missing one or losing one sucks but it happens from time to time.

I'd miss even more if my pattern was that tight.

Dang, 4 pages over a bad day in the turkey woods.

You missed, it happens, time to move on
You bumped a ton of birds, it happens, time to move on.

Learn from your mistakes and don't dwell on what's already done.

Exactly, I wouldn't recommend trying to match me on that one. Talk about frustrating.

Come on over and hunt with me right now. No gobbling, freezing cold and 2" of snow just to make it really fun

Hang in there Catman and remember killing that turkey requires hitting something the size of your fist. Missing is everywhere else in the world. :D
