All across various shooting sites there are discussions surrounding 'bad' looking borescope pics. A lot of the time these pics literally suck the confidence right out of the shooter. Sometimes it's best to ignore what we perceive as a bore that just must be way out of spec and let the weapon AND our individual confidence be the authority on what the reality actually is. Case in point here..... one of my latest 541T Sporters that shoots lights out with SK Standard Plus at 50 yards. This rifle has 2 action screws vs some that only have 1. The other day I posted pics of targets from a little range session with this rifle and my other 541T Sporter that only has one action screw. Today I'me reposting pics of the target that I shot with the 2 screw rifle and a couple of borescope pics of that rifle.
Pics from Sunday......
Borescope pics today....these tooling marks are about an inch in front of the chamber and are on each of the lands 360 degrees at this location. They look pretty horrible but the target pics tell a different story. The rest of the bore looks normal as does the entire bore on the other rifle. This just goes to show that what we see with a borescope that looks like severe defects in the bore needs to be target verified. Allowing the pics to impede on one's confidence can be a lot worse than the perceived 'defects' in the steel.
