Bottom of the barrel eats?

Heart, kidney, liver, snoots, chitlins, ears, oxtail, gizzards, chicken feet, turkey necks, souse, skwerl brains, mountain oysters, tongue…I could go on but you get the picture. I do, but who else still enjoys any of these every so often? Which ones and how do you prepare'em?
Of those I've had liver, oxtail, turkey necks, tongue, add venison heart and chicken gizzards. Of those I don't seek out liver, tongue or ox tail, but will eat them if offered. The rest I will eat when I get the chance, pretty dang tasty. Beef tongue is actually pretty good, it almost reminds me of pulled pork in consistency and mouth feel, with a barbacoa taste.

Come on man, they let ya kill 3 does per day. Are you really that bad at deer hunting? Or just like the food?

Don't get me wrong, I would beat the buzzards off some sour roadkill gruel and I would steal the trash out of a raccoons mouth if I had to. But I've still got venison.

I LOVE me some chicken liver and liver loaf sandwiches never had any other kinds of liver though, it just has to been cooked well and not undercooked then the texture will make me sick to my stomach. Never had any of the other listed organs/parts

:D

Okay. gonna chime in as this tickled my old, retired GI heart!

I have found, you should not ask up front what it is-try it and decide from there.

Gonna admit, there are things like Rocky Mountain Oysters and such that didn't thrill me; but that said, I have eaten many critters and parts that sound gross-but prepared properly, are not too shabby! Some that come to mind:

"Alabama Double Stump Slung Chitlins." I was skeptical until Alabama dude explained, "that is why they are double stump slung!" LOL

Lingua (beef tongue in Mexico) - surprisingly good.

Had gator in LA. Snakes, turtles, other random things elsewhere-again, not too shabby!

Korea scared me so much (this is where I learned to try it first before commenting), but really realized, most ANYthing, prepared properly... it will surprise you.

Most offal and internal organs aren't a go to for me, but again, if done well, you'll be surprised.

Just sayin'.

Souse, snoots , gizzards, liver and tongue. My brother loves the ears.

If it is in proper Lousy Anna (🙃) made boudin, I'll try it. But since I have that tick borne meat issue, it's kind of a non-issue. No mammal meat.

sounds like you may have sampled some kagogi.

I like gizzards... Beef tongue properly cooked is very good... I really have not tried any of the others except for rocky mountain oysters and I did not like or dislike them, just was unimpressed either way

Turtle, rattlesnake, chicken and duck feet, souse and pig knuckles, ox tongue and tail, rooster fries and lamb fries, pork brains, ground hog, carp, bass and crappie roe, you can say I didn't grow up hungry, but I draw the line at ANY type of liver! Fun thread!

Two I haven't seen mentioned , pig feet, pig tails. And possum. Ok, that's 3.
Old man liked pig feet and tails.

Have to admit, I've eaten many of the things mentioned, but it was a looong time ago.

I always looked forward to hog killing time because of the fresh liver. I like chicken liver but not beef or deer. When I was in school Dairy Queen had chicken liver, gizzards, and hearts, cheap meal. I've ate mountain oysters and they're not too bad if you get past the idea of what you're eating. My freshman year in high school the girls in Home Ec class fried up a bunch. One of the coaches really liked them until he found out what he was eating. You could hear and trail him down the hall to the bathroom 😂.
