Brands?

Best is a strong word there are a bunch of good call makers out there. Wood haven, legacy, hooks, cane creek creek just to name a few on the mouth call side.

I like Knight and Hale
But if you look in any box store catalog
they all have the same cuts and all look the same
just have different names attached

agree on Knight and Hale, my only issue with them is IMO they are not a good (not talking about mouth calls) over the past few years as years before that.

HOWEVER, their mouth calls IMO have gotten much better then before. My only issue with the mouth calls is the tend to use a smaller frame then some others i like so i never can get the call to be still in my mouth so i cant use them.

Come on down to the NWTF show at Opryland. You can try every call made.

The 36th Annual NWTF Convention and Sport Show
Feb. 9-12, 2012 at Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Have never been able to use mouth calls because of the "gagging" effect. So I have a house full of friction calls. They ALL sound like a hen, because every hen sounds different. And, when a gobbler is in the mood, they don't have to sound like a calling contest. However, the one that usually goes afield with me is a "Raspy Old Hen" box call made by Ike Ashby out of Missouri, long since out of business. Super sound, at least as perceived by me!

most any will sound like a turkey if used correctly, it really comes down to what type of QUALITY do you want. Custom calls like Lights out, David Halloran and Hooks have a better quality to them. Doesnt really mean the sound better (I think they do but thats just me) but they look very nice and typically will have a longer life and feel to them.

Dont get me wrong they will all kill turkeys and I personally have killed plenty with production calls like the old yeller and little deuce but these days if i am really investing money into a call I would rather just have one that is a bit more personalized and better quality associated to it. Nothing wrong with production style but for the price of some of them you can get a hand made wood call with the wood of your choice for not much more and in turn it will just mean more to you in the long run.

To me it is the one I can use the best. Seems like everytime I get one I am good with I loose it in the woods. I good good results from Madd and Prioms calls.

I started off production..... then last year I went full customs..... I have collected several call types and by various call makers on OldGobbler.... I have a thing for unique call woods/finish...... love every one of mine.... I support the "little" man when I can.
