The actual play was suppose to be across the middle of the field and gain 6-7 yards call a TO and let Eddie try his longest FG yet in a game. They got pressure and pushed FF out and well.... the rest is history.

60+ yd bomb. Franks got an arm.
Always was said about him... guess he had to prove it to the staff.

I think the difference between this ending and last years Vols Georgia game ending was the Surgical precision of that throw VS just throwing it up in the air and someone getting lucky and coming up with it .

Surgical precision? He just threw it as far as he could because they was the only option he had. What they wanted to do was covered and he was flushed out of the pocket. Florida was setting up for the field goal.

Very poor coaching by butch and staff. I mean UT was on the 1 yard line and you throw the football? What the heck why not just keep it simple and hand it to Kelly up the middle or even do a QB sneak? Defense looked better until that last play. Martin and Abernathy let the wide out blow by them!! Why in the heck were we in cover 2 anyways? Speaking of the last play did anyone see that offensive lineman holding Kongbo? Should have been a flag thrown because had he not held Kongbo gets a sack and we go to overtime. I've been one to defend Jones the past few years but this game did it for me. That game shouldn't have been close. Very poor coaching.

Never actually ran a play inside the 1. Martin completely stopped on the route and then Abernathy took a really bad angle when he picked the receiver up. They were in cover 2 because UF was running basically the same play that they beat TN with in 2015 on the 4th and 14. The still image going around of Kongbo being held didnt look as much like a hold in real time.

There were several opportunities for UT to win this game outright but both players and coaches didnt perform to the level to make it happen. John Kelly is my favorite player on this team right now and he was straight face planting gators in the turf. But bless his heart, he couldnt do it all by himself. He also had a penalty that hurt us and also dropped a walk in TD pass inside the 5.

48 hours removed from the negative emotion attached to a horrible loss; I have arrived at what I believe to be absolute truth.

It is time for UT to gently fire Butch Jones. Like tonight. Let Gillespie (his running backs are unquestionably the best sector of this team) finish the season out as an interim head coach and show future recruits that UT wants to win. UT should thank Butch for his recruiting efforts, returning to the program to some level of relevance, and for being a good mentor to his players....but absolutely let him go.

I had a first class seat on the Butch Train until Saturday. I've kept a "wait and see" attitude about him this season. In year five of his tenure, there is simply no viable excuse for losing to Florida the way they did. None. The incredible ignorance of managing the game clock, inexcusably not running John Kelly on 1st and goal, and the last play of the game have sealed the deal for me. And, I didn't arrive at this based on one game. There has been a pattern of him living by the skin of his teeth in games he should be destroying opponents. Or getting beat by bad decisions. Coaching "not to lose" only to end up doing just that.

I believe CBJ is EXCELLENT at pulling programs out of dumpster fire status and creating momentum. He returns fan bases from the dead. He gets fans and players believing they will win. He sets the expectations of wins. He says he's there to win championships. He loads rosters with incredible athletes capable of big plays. The whole state of TN buys in....and we watch him shat the bed by throwing out of the mother humpin shotgun formation SIX TIMES IN A ROW at the goal line....with a brand new quarterback....on the road....in a very hostile stadium....while a kid averaging over 6 yards per carry is uninvolved.

I wish I didn't have to post this. I like him. I wish he were the one, but I sincerely believe we've seen all of which he's capable.

I'll hang up and listen.

Sounds more than fair to me. I just dont think anything happens until the end of the season unless he wets the bed against SC, or UK. If he loses bad to Vandy at home, he will be fired before the night is over with IMO.

Im interested to see what happens really because I get the feeling that Currie will not play around. I also get the feeling that he will try get the best coach possible also. Big money boosters may limit him like they always have but I think he will do his best to get a reputable coach in here.

Good post Andy. I also don't think anything will happen until after the season either. Here's the real dilemma, do we hope for more ineptitude to ensure his leaving or hope for the team to rally around him like they've done previous years?

Hat would be a tough position. If I were a vol fan I would want 6-6 and get him gone. He has built the brand back up but this is his best he can do imo. To many years to still be making the same mistakes.

I wont wish for more losses or chaos amongst the team just to get Butch gone. Thats silly IMO.

I think Currie is a pretty smart guy and has already made some kind of decision on whether or not he is going to keep Butch around. Butch went 9-4 last year and didnt get a contract extension. I think Currie told Butch that 2017 was win the East or git.

Butch has a contract through 2020. He doesn't need an extension.

Why did he fire his manager after he didnt get one?

Getting an extension would have meant more buyout if he was let go early. Didnt happen.

You let Butch go in mid season and you won't get s coach to coach here....

Wont be mid season if at all. Unless he loses to UMASS Sat or gets blown out by UK, SC, or Vandy. The last one not being mid season really.
