I think they are just SD....it's the same cards I've used with both bushnell cams for the past couple of years

You didn't per chance check the cards last time in a regular camera did you? Sometimes some 'non-game' cameras will reformat memory cards if you use them to check pictures. With neither camera taking any pictures, unless they were out in the hot sun itself, it doesn't sound like would be the temperature. Strange that neither one had any triggers at all.
