cell phone trail cams??

I've got a couple of the older model Covert Spec Ops out on our lease in Missouri. Been out a little over a week, got one decent buck on cam so far, a bobcat, coyote, gobbler and a huge coon lol. One of the cameras isn't transmitting right now, and I believe that has to do with the fact that when my cousin brought the cams to me to take out there it had duct tape on the bottom to keep the door shut on it and the lens is stuck between day and night settings. I asked him if it had been dropped. "Maybe, I'm not sure". Soooo, that's a yes lol. Just need to make sure you have a good signal where you plan on putting the cameras up. Cheapest route is go to Wally World and buy one of the $15 Go Phones, a refill card and activate the SIM card in the phone. If you go to an AT&T store they'll charge you $25 for a SIM card alone. Follow the on-screen instructions for getting the phone up and going, choose the $0.10 a minute plan and pay for the messaging only, you won't be using any voice for the camera. Take s a little time to set it up the first time but it's worth it if you don't live near where your cams are.

What is the refill card for? I thought you just need a SIM?

You can use either the refill card or go online to add $ to the phone number account associated with your SIM card. Either way works, but you have to make sure you add money on a regular basis to keep it active. It's pretty clear on ATT's website what the intervals are. Easiest thing to do is put $100 on your account and it guarantees to stay open for a year. Then when it gets lower add another $100 and it'll restart the clock. You can do less, but you'll need to add more often to keep the account live. Money left on the account doesn't keep the SIM card live for some reason.

My Code Black came in today. I was out with my wife for a movie right after work and got in about 10:30. I set it up while watching the instructional video on the Covert Cams website, which took about 15min. It's currently in the backyard and I've triggered it a couple times to make sure all is working...and it is. Can't wait to put this thing up in the woods!

Mine showed up yesterday, too. I can't believe how small it is. I think it's as small as the Primos Ultra cams and the Bushnell Trophy cams. I figured a cell camera would be bigger for some reason. I won't be able to deploy it until August, so I've got some time to figure out the SIM process. This is going to be so cool!

The Covert Code Black is pretty awesome. I ran it overnight with one SD card and switched to another this morning. Both cards are working and it's sending pics. The ability to text the cam and have it send a pic back is cool.

I usually use a camlock box and python cable for my cameras. This one will be different. 4 lags screws, a python cable thru the box and camera, and a master lock in the front of the box. A thief will have to be highly motivated to steal this setup :D

ATT sold me a universal SIM card for $7 with the $.10/min plan today.

The risk with just getting a GoPhone is that now ATT is locking the SIM card to the phone for 90 days. The DLC customer service guys say if you buy a GoPhone you end up having to go back and get the card swapped, or you can just buy the card only. But then you need a phone handy to get it set up and tested.

I now have both since I bought the GoPhone and then a universal SIM card. :D

He must have fed you bum info because I bought two Go Phones in Missouri with the cards, set them up and have been receiving pictures since lol. Salesmen...sheez :)

The refill card was to load the initial money to the number(s) accounts. After you put money with the number, either through the refill cards or just debit/credit then you are up and running.

I put the Code Black up at my lease today in a spot where I've been getting plenty of deer pictures. Full signal and this arrived via text an hour after I left.

I ordered the Covert Special Ops Code Black wireless cam over the weekend because Wing Supply was offering 15% off on all purchases. Got it for about $245 shipped. I think that is the lowest price you will find on a cellular trail cam these days. Most places sell the Code Black for about $350. I plan to put it up in Kansas, but I won't have a chance to get it hung until August. I am really looking forward to having the pics texted to me so I don't have to make the 5 hr drive to pull the card. The camera will more than pay for itself in gas savings. I hope I will be able to post some dandy bucks on here once I get it running.

It looks like they sold out over the weekend. Their regular price of $280 is still way better than everybody else. Here's the link so you can keep an eye on the price when they get it back in stock.

DLC Covert "Code Black" Special OPS Wireless (Cellular) Game Camera

Wish I would have caught this deal. I'd be in for one at that cost, but can't muster up much more than this for one

I'm hearing REALLY good things about the Code Black MMS. They are selling like hot-cakes too. Sellers can't keep them in stock.

What about the signal? I can barely get a signal where I hunt and I have a verizon phone that gets a better signal than ATT

MMS cams only work well where you have a GOOD signal. Signal booster antennas can be purchased, but only help a little.

They're a whole lot of fun. The text pics are poor quality, but the actual pics are good quality. I'm looking forward to pulling my card this weekend.

These are text pics

I have a covert black special ops . Originally got the booster antenna bc my lease is on the mtn and cell signal is very poor if any. No signal... Ended up buying a Wilson electronics external house antenna with cable and multiple connectors but now it works like a charm in a place that cell signal didn't exist.
Mine is SMS 2way version (2013) . You can text the camera #500# it will take photo right now and send to you . Also lithium batteries don't last as long as regular ones for some reasons .. I used AT&T go phone unlimited $27 per month
So far I like my covert cam better than any other brand . Bushnell / wildgame / stealth cam.
