Changing heads

Personally, even when I was shooting muzzys I replaced the blades every time I shot them at a deer. They get dull and dinged. If you want a durable fixed blade that shoots like a field tip Id recommend the slick tricks. They have the thickest blades. Second would be the solid montecs but Ive never shot them so cant speak to how they fly...they are a tough head but I have seen the tips curled or chunks taken out of the blade from pass throughs into rough ground.

Radar -- Which Trick were you shooting? I only had the Magnums and I don't have any of the regular Tricks but I'm wondering if that could have been the difference.

My 18-1 is soft foam and when I'm shooting fixed heads, I don't group shoot with them, so I wasn't hitting anything hard in the target. I bent every blade I shot into the target and even broke one of them. I think I kept all of them in my archery box. If I still got 'em I will dig them out and take a pic.

I shoot magnums . Never had a problem with bent blades . I even have a picture of one taken from the spine of a buck I shot .

I hate admitting when I'm wrong, but in this case I will since I seldom am wrong :D

It was the G5 small game heads that I had trouble with the blades breaking and bending.

The problem I had with the Tricks was the heads on them flattening out. I knew it was something I didn't like about them, but for some reason I was thinking it was the blades. The blades were fine...was the point on the head that I thought should have been stronger. I have 1 I shot a ground pig with, that looks like it hit a cinder block; will take a pic of it. My wife also shot a small buck with the 85 grain Tricks that the tip was sort of flattened on like mine. Her arrow stuck in the deer and came the rest of the way out as it was running, so it didn't hit dirt, rock, or anything like my ground pig did...would have just been hyde, meat, and bone. I kept all of them in my archery box when I switched to the Rages to try.

Whatever happens to a head after it has done the job on a deer doesn't matter .Slick Tricks are one of the strongest heads I have used in 30 years of bowhunting. Rage heads are not as strong as Slick Tricks.
Rage heads can make a good cut on a gut shot , but they do not penetrate bone like a Slick Trick.
The bottom line is, put any sharp broadhead in the vitals and you will get the desired results . The choice is up to you to shoot the best BH that flies well with your equipment.

Man this topic sounds familiar...I'm the worlds worst for changing things...But I always go back to the good old Muzzy 100 gn. now I do like the G5 Striker they fly just as well for me. Never lost a deer with a Muzzy....
