I have been fooling around with getting new bottom metal to use AI mags in my 700PSS and for the price of "good" bottom metal and the mags the AICS is starting to pull on me hard,,if I sold my HS stock and subtracted the price of bottom metal and one mag that comes with the AICS and there is no bottom metal as its made into the chassis the price isnt that far off,,

I really like the thought of the adjustable cheek weld and length of pull,,

has anybody used any other chassis that will compare to the AI for any cheaper,,I think I have decided on the FDE 1.5 AICS,,

Put that bad boy in a RACS!

Or the MDT chassis would work for a LOT cheaper.

I have considered the XLR but have heard the tube makes mounting your scope really high unavoidable,,I am using the Leupold LR M1 30mm tube 40mm lens now and it wouldnt be to bad considering the adjustable cheek riser but may upgrade scopes in the near future to a 50-56mm lens,,

I would like to handle one before I drop that much change,,

I see now the XLR Element doesnt have the tube forend and would allow normal height scope mounts,,
I would really like to handle one of these in person,,

Call me old fashioned but I don't see the point in buying a Remingtom 700 and then putting it in a stock made from 964 complex, individual pieces just for the sake of making it look like a M16? Why not just get a Model 40X from the Custom Shop with the really good synthetic stock and go from there? Besides, it will still look like a rifle and not something from a science fiction movie. Not trying to be a smart-alec but I just don't understand the fascination with these weird M16 style stocks lately.

For the same reason God created............blondes, brunettes, redheads, etc. to each their own. ;)

Its not for the sake of looks, its for function. Some things you just cant do with a slab of walnut.

yeah,,I need to have the capability of a 10 round detachable magazine,,being able to adjust the stock so my eyes line up directly inline with the scope from various positions is a game changer also,,

and besides I would hate to put one of my nicer walnut stocks through a day in a Tactical Match type situation even though I dont shoot matches,,it will be treated like a match rifle,,

and if I could afford a 5,000$$ rifle from the Rem Custom shop I would be giving the guys at GAP a call,

I guess the words, "Custom Shop" give the wrong impression o the type rifle I'm talking about. This is the rifle I was refering to:

http://www.remingtoncustom.com/40X_40xbks.aspx

It could certainly take rough handling and not show much sign of wear. It's not pretty at all - what you are paying for is high quality and precision. I've got the wood stock version - (the wood stock is noticeably wider than the synthetic to sit on bags steady) and it's been the most dependable rifle I've ever had to absolutely hold it's zero year after year. I THINK they can still be had for something like $2,500. I paid $875 for mine back in 1988 but that was true wholesale as I have a FFL.

I understand what you are saying, Mr. Big, about the available stock adjustments. Especially for different shooting positions. I can't deny that is a big advantage for the type stock you are talking about here. :) OK, carry on. I just had to voice my thoughts - no ill will meant!

My brother has one of those rifles in 222 Magnum and it shoots really well off bags from a rest,,and I would love to own one myself,,but the rifle I am getting together now will be shot mostly off the ground with a bipod and other odd field situations where bags wont be available,,and will need to be carried and strapped to a 4 wheeler,,it is just a different type shooting,no ill will taken and I was 100% on your side until I took up shooting steel targets in field situations where there are no benches,,

Nobody likes the McRee stuff? Hand made one at a time and a real nice guy to deal with. Its not overly fancy but a super solid platform.

Value for dollar spent I have to go with McRee. Owner is a great fella too. If you have doubts test this out and call them.

I like the looks of the McCree and the Whiskey3,,I think I will get barrel first and try and handle these other Chassis before buying,,

I would love to try it out,,I am about 45 minutes north west from cookeville,,from the specs the Carbon XLR`s weight makes it interesting also but would be well over a grand how I would want it,,

if you have a spot to shoot I would love to come up and try it out,,could bring a couple guys and rifles and make a day if you like,,

plan on getting a Bartlien barrel and have it redone in 6.5x47 or Creedmore this fall,,I have seen enough from the 139 Scenars and 140 Hybirds to make a believer out of me,,you can take little over 40 grs of powder and shoot side by side with 180 gr 300WM loads

I don't have a good place to shoot really. We can use the 100 yard range at Catoosa. You can get a feel for it there anyway. It's all brand new for the most part. I have only put about 150 rounds through it. 168gr SMK Hornady factory loads
