I was actually on that hunt and killed a 2 1/2 yr. 3 point at about 9:05. It took me a while to get it out, so I didn't get to the checking station until after 11:00. There had only been one other deer killed when I got there and it was an 8 pt.
On a different note, I was extremely disappointed in the game wardens. When I pulled up, they came out and one of them says "Is it another scrub?" The other says "Yeah" to which the other replies "Huh, I thought all of them had been shot by now." Their tone was very condescending. It was as if they were shaming me for killing this deer. Admittedly, I am a meat hunter. I have killed some rather nice deer, but consider big horns a bonus. We have a mature 6 or better rule on our Benton County lease, and I walk deer all the time. But, this is Chuck Swan!!! What if this had been my very first deer and they acted in this manner? Could have turned someone away from our way of life. I believe that these two officers need to remember who is footing the bill for their livelihoods. Sorry for the rant, but it is another example of forgetting that we are all in this together. The "antis" won't make that mistake.
