Chuck swan

Ridge and valley similar to the highland rim, similar to western middle TN. Lots of oaks and big woods with scattered small fields. It's a state forest so there is a lot of active management and stands of various ages. It's been 7-8 years since I hunted there.

Big woods with scattered open areas and hilly. The hunting has really declined in the last 5 years though, which is really sad as it used to be incredible

Is it worth the drive

Honestly after my last two draws there I'm not sure. But it may be awesome this year I just don't know. The level of idiocy by other hunters has also gotten out of control with the decline in birds.

The last two hunts I drew there were a total of 3 birds killed by almost 700 hunters.

I've tried to look up the 2016 Turkey Harvest by WMA on the new TWRA Hunter's Toolbox but I cant find it Is this information available??

Chuck Swan had 71 birds killed last year. 1st hunt-19, 2nd hunt-18, 3rd hunt-11, 4th hunt-12, 5th hunt-11.

Thanks tn. How can I find that info for the other WMA's??
In the TWRA Hunters Toolbox under Turkey Harvest Report by County/WMA. You will need to know the hunt dates to get accurate data.

I think some of those numbers are better than they might sound if you take the weather into consideration.
Yes. Cold/Wind/Rain/# of hunters that show up can really affect the kill numbers.

Any idea what the reasoning is behind the hunting stopping at noon on Chuck Swan??
I've always heard so as not to disturb nesting hens but I don't know for sure.

The birds are there, but they get called a lot. I live minutes away. It's only my opinion, and maybe I'm not that good, but they are the toughest birds I've ever hunted.

Place is slap full of turkeys and googans as well. Very well managed ground with lots of timber management and improved fields. A quality hunt, sure 'nuff, whether it's the first hunt or the last hunt ;)

So, knowing what you know about Chuck Swan, would you drive 7 hours to it for a 3 day hunt??

I have hunted it several times and the birds can be tough . No different than any other public ground. Would I drive 7 hours ? I don't know but you put in for the hunt and got the first one , you must have been saving some points to get that one. The first hunt is before season starts so I guess it just depends on how much you have going on and how bad you want to turkey hunt before everyone else gets the chance. If you have any questions on the place feel free to pm me!
