I have hunted it several times and the birds can be tough. No different than any other public ground. Would I drive 7 hours ? I don't know but you put in for the hunt and got the first one , you must have been saving some points to get that one. The first hunt is before season starts so I guess it just depends on how much you have going on and how bad you want to turkey hunt before everyone else gets the chance.
Good points.
Just my "opinion", as I've visited CS numerous times, yet never turkey hunted there:
I'd say the turkey hunting there is very similar to the turkey hunting at LBL, likely better than LBL (or at least has been).
Many people will tell you the turkey hunting at LBL sucks; others will tell you it's as good or better than most other areas.
Similar seems true for CS.

Getting to hunt CS for 3 days, before the statewide season even opens, that's truly a "bonus" opportunity, so can't imagine why you'd even put in for it in the first place if you had questionable intensions about going.

Place is slap full of turkeys and googans as well. Very well managed ground with lots of timber management and improved fields. A quality hunt, sure 'nuff, whether it's the first hunt or the last hunt ;)
So, knowing what you know about Chuck Swan, would you drive 7 hours to it for a 3 day hunt??
Bud, if you've got to think about it that much, your better off staying home. As for me, I live and breathe turkey hunting. I'm fixin to drive 14 hrs to hunt the only public ground in South Florida in less than two weeks just because I can.

Why would you put in for something and get drawn and then ask if it's worth the drive? I think I would make that decision beforehand.

I drew the 3rd hunt not the 1st hunt. And had 0 preference points. This hunt was my third choice and with no preference points I had very little expectation of getting drawn. So please don't lecture me on possibly not driving all the way across the state to turkey hunt a WMA that has gotten mixed reviews on this forum. That happens to be the same weekend as LBL's youth hunt so I'll have to make that decision. But I sincerely appreciate all of the info and advice that has been given on Chuck Swan.

Oh I'm going no doubt even if it's just for the time spent with my brother and buddy, just trying to get an idea as what to expect

If the hunting is closed at noon the I don't know if I would make the drive personally. A lot of my heavily hunted public land success comes in early or even late afternoon.

We had a blast last year on the first hunt and didn't get to hunt the first day. My brother and I tagged out within a couple hours of daylight the second day of the hunt. We had already paid for the cabin we were staying at so we fished that evening and the next day. Then left early the next morning we had a 3 hr drive and only 2 days to hunt. Probably one of the best hunts I have ever been on and I can't pass up the opportunity of hunting turkeys a week before everyone else gets to lol. I didn't get drawn this year. Good luck to all and don't forget your fishing poles for the evenins.
