Great post.
Although I lived in the MS delta for 3 years, I never once hunted bottomland turkeys, which I now regret. I did run into turkeys in the swamps while deer and duck hunting. As you described, they roosted in places that made a middle TN boy from the hills often scratch his head.
A couple of thoughts. What kind of hip waders are you using? Although helpful, waders especially in hot weather can be more trouble than their worth. Have you ever tried wearing light shoes/clothing, going navy seal on those birds, and just getting wet. The next best thing is the Nite Lite hip waders. Second, where's the boat? It sounds like you need a piroque, kayak, or poke boat.
Anyways, great post. I always enjoy hearing the perspective of someone who lives on highly pressured public lands like I do.
