Coosa bass

Are they in the sequatchie river?
They look similar to something my grandfather and I used to catch (1980s) there. I vaguely remember them being a little darker colored. Papaw called them red-eyes. Same shape body...and big enough to cover a dinner plate. Just curious. Thanks

Edit to add...they were chunkier than the one in your pic.

The coosa is a sub-species of a red-eye.

From what you're describing I'd bet y'all were catching Rock bass commonly called Redeye bass. They are very good to eat. Coosa bass are only native in extreme southeast Tn.
 
I'm pretty sure this is a spotted bass? Maybe? Disregard the yellow shirt, I wasn't planning on fishing but decided I'd try it lol
