I camped out from Friday afternoon til around 2pm on Monday. Had a buddy who wanted to go but couldn't make it. I took my cameras and also my turkey hunting stuff just in case.

I was fishing mainly for common carp, cause there are some huge ones in there, and a lot of mirror (Israeli) carp as well.

Saturday morning I saw shad getting busted behind the boat and threw a topwater and caught this LM with two smaller SM following him in.

First carp of the trip on Saturday - dink -

Second carp of the trip was right at 34" making the size for a TARP award. Sunday morning -

The next fish was the biggest, my personal best and probably the biggest fish I've ever caught. Right at 3 feet long

I caught a few more fish between then and Monday. The last fish of the trip was a thick full scaled mirror carp that I didn't weigh, but was probably pushing 20 pounds.

I also did some turkey hunting, the hills are steep but there is some pretty land around the lake.

It was worth it to me driving out there to catch those big ugly fish and enjoy some of the best scenery in TN. Next time I'd like to add a day or two to the trip and do some more turkey hunting and smallmouth fishing.

Id love to learn how to catch those fish
Canned corn is your friend, the challenge is finding a good spot (in some lakes this is no challenge) they generally like mud or gravel flats, sandy beaches etc. They aren't always feeding and won't bite anything when they're not. Chum is your friend too, bring extra corn to throw into the zone where they usually feed and where you will cast your lines.

Looks like you had a blast. With all that gravel are there any Shellcrackers?
There was a guy fishing all the way down that shoreline from his boat and had been catching a lot of big bluegills and shellcracker on Friday afternoon. He was in his 70s and said he was 2 when the lake was impounded, and had been fishing it since he was 4. He came back around again on Monday but only caught a couple.

I went to the marina at one point and bought nightcrawlers... they are still in my cooler, I haven't even used one of them. There's a 3 rod limit on that lake, and I wanted either 2 for carp and 1 for topwater, or all 3 for carp, so I never did fish for any panfish.

Those are some dandies. When I was a kid I went with a neighbor to the Big Sandy River carp fishing. We used some doughballs that he made up. We would catch tow sacks of those things. Some fun fishing.

I was checking out you campsite pic ( looks rather nice by the way) and was wondering what was in the 2 big cans on the picnic table. Is that your chum?

I bought a case of 6 #10 cans of corn and used 3 of them. Most was chum and a little for bait. I mixed in some stuff called Robin Red that the europeans use in a lot of their carp baits. It worked pretty well. Just plain corn works well too
